"Would not recommend"

I had the worst motel experience of my life staying at Aqua Breeze Inn in Santa Cruz from March 25โ€“28. I was traveling with another adult female and three children, including a toddler in a stroller. Upon check-in, we were told our room was on the third floor, and only then did we find out there were no elevators. Managing three kids, a stroller, and all of our belongings up multiple flights of stairs was already overwhelming. I did politely ask if there was any possibility of a lower-level room, and I was told no. When we finally made it upstairs, there was a cleaning cart completely blocking the walkway. There was no way around it, so I moved it slightly just to get through with my kids and our things. Shortly after, while I was still unloading in my doorway, a large male staff member came up to my room and began yelling at me. He said I was disrespectful for even asking about another room and accused me of aggressively moving the cart. He stood in my doorway and then threatened to kick us out without a refund. It was incredibly intimidating, especially considering it was two women and children. I tried to de-escalate the situation by apologizing, but the way he approached me was completely unprofessional and unnecessary. On Friday, a friend briefly came to visit. She parked in the handicap spot momentarily and was immediately approached by the same staff member, who aggressively told her she couldnโ€™t park there and that we were not allowed to have guests. She moved her car right away to the street without any issue. Later that day, after we returned from the beach, she was standing outside near her car when the same man approached her again and questioned her, asking if she planned on staying and telling her he would be watching the cameras. This felt extremely uncomfortable and invasive. That same night, I noticed two missed calls back-to-back from the front desk just after 9:40 PM. I found that very inappropriate and intrusive, especially since there was no emergency or valid reason to be contacting me that late. At checkout, they refused to return my deposit because another adult in my room briefly stepped outside to smoke. We were never clearly informed that smoking was not allowed outside the room. There were no visible signs, and we didnโ€™t sign anything acknowledging that policy. This was also supposedly after 10 PM, when the balcony area was already closed, which made the situation even more confusing and frustrating. What made this entire experience worse was how targeted it felt. As two women traveling togetherโ€”one of whom is visibly part of the LGBTQ+ communityโ€”and with a diverse group, the repeated confrontations, aggressive tone, and constant monitoring felt excessive and concerning. Overall, the behavior from staff, especially this male employee, was hostile, intimidating, and completely unprofessional. I did not feel comfortable or respected during this stay, which is unacceptable when traveling with children. I booked this stay through Expedia, and I hope they take situations like this seriously and review the way this property treats its guests. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable staying here again or recommending it to anyone.

"Would stay again but will request top floor"

I liked how close it was to the boardwalk we walked both days. The staff were nice and accommodating.

Compact parking lot, no coffee in lobby, people above us were loud sounded like they were stomping and jumping around, I donโ€™t mind because I have kids also but between 10pm-9am everything should be quiet.

"Worst experience, harassment from staff"

Worst hotel experience Iโ€™ve ever had. Staff continuously harassed us over minor issues like parking, knocked on our door before checkout, and pressured us to leave early. They even made my 6-year-old uncomfortable while we were still within our stay time. On top of that, the room was in terrible condition with visible mold and poor cleanliness. Completely unacceptable. We will never stay here again and warn anyone considering it to book elsewhere so you don't have to deal with the harassment and horrible conditions.

"If you want a real basic stay that is convenient walking distance to the boardwalk/beach this is it."

The only two things I liked about this place was that it was very convenient for walking to the boardwalk/beach as well as the upper deck patio seating was nice at night to just look at everything.

This location has pictures that look really nice. It must have been updated years ago with not much up keep. I only booked the location as it looked like a nicer hotel on the inside, however when you walk in it is not as nice. Things splattered on the wall and not cleaned, hole in the shower with a pipe coming out. Looks like a dog was locked in the bathroom at some point as the baseboard/siding on the wall is tore up. The room had a funky smell not clean. The springs in one of our beds was coming out and I could feel it in my back when I would move. As well as I booked on bookings.com and when I get to the location I was told i did not have a reservation. However it was in my emails confirmed by the property? That was a hassle. They proceed to then tell me that I did not book the king room. I show proof and they then say we'll I don't know why bookings did that as we dont even have a King room available im not sure why they'd let you book it. So they would only give me a queen with 2 beds. This is not what I wanted nor payed for. They would not give me a king room and let me pay the difference. I will not ever stay at this hotel again! Service is everything to me and I do not feel the service was acceptable. I should have been accomodated for what I originally booked as they had one available.

Me and my husband, love the fact that it was so close to the pier and all the food places in Santa Cruz. We also enjoyed everything so close by. It was also affordable, considering the area.

My husband respectfully told the house cleaning lady that was outside, banging the trashes out on the rails if she could please keep the noise level down because we were still resting. Then a young man working there who is also a housekeeper, told my husband. That they were allowed to make noise and that it was 10 AM already. He was very rude and inconsiderate. The walls are super thin and you can hear every noise, especially kids jumping off and on the bed.
