Berkeley City Club Hotel

Beautiful historic building, great architecture, handsome fixtures, beautiful public rooms, carpets, furniture, and well-maintained garden area with great plants, seating, and small koi pond. Very good food and service in the bar (Morgan's) as well as the gorgeous dining room (Julia's). Attentive, friendly staff at front desk. Great location near the university and Early Music concert venues, mostly churches. Left the car in the nextdoor lot (effective gates for entering and leaving) and walked to the concerts. The elevators worked well and provided reliable service between our 6th floor rooms and the lobbies, garden, restaurants on the lower floors.

The shower/tub would be safer for an elderly person (or anyone) if there were grab bars. Access at the front door involves steps, a bit difficult for us with problematic hips/backs. The railings help. Could there possibly be a ramp? The pool wasn't available when I had time to swim due to a scheduled Zumba class, but it's another great asset.

The guy at reception was amazingly helpful. The breakfast was really lovely with spinach and cheese soufflés - yummy.

The room you have breakfast in was cold.
