While the lake is beautiful, the area around the resort is run down and full of meth heads. No where to get a decent coffee or a nice meal. That made it not a good vacation spot. Anywhere decent was over an hour away, and a drive over dangerous mountanous roads

****POC Targeted Felony Theft & Vandalism!!**** I rarely leave reviews but I felt I had to write this for public awareness and my father, brother and nephew. DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT. My family checked in from 4/6 to 4/8. This trip was supposed to be an annual fishing trip lasting until 4/10 for my 12-year-old nephew, his father(brother), and grandfather(Dad) and quickly turned into a nightmare involving felony level theft and targeted destruction of property. They experienced two separate break-ins on consecutive nights while parked on the resort property, which claims to have 24-hour security. -Night One: Thousands of dollars in equipment were stolen, including fishing poles, fish finders, and batteries. The property Management had a lackluster response and assured them there was security and they would be on the look out. -Night Two: After replacing gear to try and salvage the trip, they covered and cleared the boat of all valuables. There were several other boats parked nearby uncovered with poles, fish finders and equipment that was clearly visible and accessible. The perpetrators returned and committed pure vandalism!!! They cut all the wires to the motor and controls, rendering the boat inoperable. Most disturbingly, they were the only Black family at the resort, and despite several other boats having more expensive equipment and being easer to access, they were the only ones targeted two nights in a row. We strongly suspect this was race related and potentially an inside job. The management and local police displayed a dismissive "this happens all the time" attitude, showing zero urgency or concern regarding the security failures on their watch! Because my father is a talented mechanic of 40+yrs, he was able to rig the motor to get the boat home otherwise, they would have been stranded or been forced to leave the boat behind. This ordeal resulted in thousands of dollars in damages, $1,000+ in wasted travel expenses, and 30 hours of driving for a ruined vacation. The only "compensation" offered was a refund of the points used for the stay, a pathetic response to a felony crime. If you value your property and your safety especially if you are a person of color AVOID THIS PLACE. They do not protect their guests, and they do not care when they are victimized! If you value your property and peace of mind DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I've included some pictures of the damage but the incident was so upsetting not all the damage was captured. FOR ANYONE THINKING OF STAYING HERE, know that if something happens to your property the attitude of management and the local police is “this happens all the time” and if you're a POC you'll probably be the family that it happens to!!!
