The Great George

Een heel leuk historisch hotel midden in het oude centrum. Prachtig ingericht en comfortabele kamers en bedden. Goed ontbijtbuffet en er is ook een gratis happy hour 's middags met een drankje en een hapje.

I had several days at the hotel. My room had a pretty sitting area and a good bed, but the greater attraction was the hotel’s lounge with many comfortable places to sit, tea and coffee, newspapers. It was lovely.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the Romantic Hideaway Suite 403 this past weekend and I had to write to express what an exceptional experience it was. From the quick and friendly Check-In ( to be greeted with hot coffee and homemade cookies was such a nice touch- especially on a blustery November day! ) to the seamless Check-Out, we were met with smiles and pleasantries by every staff member we encountered. The suite itself was thoughtfully appointed - I especially loved that the bedding was crisp, fresh and clean without the use of cloying fragranced detergents/fabric softeners and that the amenities were more natural and gently scented. The mattress, sofas and cushions were all in good condition - comfortable and well cared for - and the cozy fireplace was so appreciated on our rainy romantic weekend! Another lovely surprise was the quality of the breakfasts - the menu was thoughtful and appealing - similar to small European hotel offerings - rather than the standard North American "continental breakfast" and my husband was amazed that the carafes actually keep the coffee super hot (he was also impressed to see the morning staff discreetly checking the food temperature with an infrared thermometer ). Other items of appreciation were that the included parking was close by and secure, and lovely restaurants and shops were a short pleasant walk ( aided by their umbrellas during a few downpours!) Essentially, the Great George was the perfect destination for a rainy autumnal getaway and we highly recommend it to anyone who asks!

The location was perfect, even during the off season. The history of the building was very interesting as well.

They like to use the term “award winning boutique ”, but that was not reflected in the room we had. There was garbage under the bathroom sink. The ac unit was dripping water. The carpet was unraveling. For such a prestigious hotel, it fell below my expectations. They also claim their breakfast is “world class” services between 6-10, you’d be lucky to get anything to eat. The first morning there was hardly anything there, second day there was less, and the third day everything seemed to be cold. We were there before nine each morning we were there. It was noted that if you forgo the housekeeping option, “Go Green” you get 10$ for each night to be used at another location. We didn’t get anything.

Great friendly, accommodating reception. Great comfortable, convenient room. Great cozy ambience in the lobby. Great Happy Hour. Great Continental Breakfast. All-in-all worthy of a Great rating.
