Merritt House Hotel

This was the cutest place we stayed on are trip. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

The courtyard doors only locked from inside.

Ultra-convenient location in the center of downtown. Excellent for exploring Monterey on foot, and a jumping off point for short drives to Pacific Grove, Carmel, Point Lobos, and Big Sur. Staff was above & beyond friendly and helpful, especially when we accidentally left something behind at check out. Room had cute decor, was spacious & comfortable, with French doors opening on to a lovely garden where breakfast was served. Parking on-site was convenient, with great bakeries, restaurants, and even an electric charging station for our car within a few blocks walking distance.

Little thing, but warm-colored LED lightbulbs in the bedside lamps would create a much cozier atmosphere. The almost-neon bright white lights were a bit jarring to read by at bedtime.

Loved the French doors that opened to the garden, large spacious room, complimentary firewood, easy checking and checkout, loved the old style hotel keys, decor was lovely, nice big desk and side table.

Bed was a bit too firm, walls are thin (could hear my neighbor and I feel parking should be included not an extra fee.

Room furniture, decor and spaciousness. Excellent location and good breakfast. Parking was fine, too.

The Merritt House Hotel is a charming place to stay. Local shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc are walkable. On sight parking is available ($20 per day) but some of the spots are tight. The morning free breakfast was charming and a perfect way to start the day. We appreciated the ability to have our breakfast "to go." We'll be back!

Breakfast was simple and convenient. The room was cute and loved having a fire place.

The pillows are very flat. The bed squeaks very loud. Water pressure is very low.

Location in Old Town was good. 5-minute walk to the Customer House and waterfront. Friendly helpful staff.

The photos make this looks like a Monterey plus plantation property. Reality is disappointing: a Motel 6 type room overlooking the parking lot. Wall are paper thin so you’re enjoying your neighbor’s conversations. Most rooms open onto a common balcony corridor, so everyone is walking by your room to get to and from the stairs. Continental breakfast was the bare minimum, and terrible weak coffee and only 4 tables for seating. The whole property is dated and could use a coat of paint.
