Oyster Bay Beach Resort

We travel to SXM twice per year to stay at OBBR / Coral Beach Club. Our family has owned timeshares since 2001. The island is lovely and accessible. It is affordable and modest compared to other islands in the region. OBBR is a fantastic resort on the Dutch side away from the busier areas. Great atmosphere, safe, secure. The rooms are clean and well appointed; though some rooms suffer years of wear and tear - could use new mattresses, new hardware, etc. The days at the Infiniti pool are awesome - good food and great service. The restaurant is always reliable though not spectacular - good pasta entrees and some nice specials throughout the week - excellent for quiet dinners after a long day of fun at beaches or on catamarans. We tend to spend our quiet evenings at The Veranda - great drinks from Gregory, as always. I look forward to his beautifully crafted cocktails on my trips. OBBR - keep that man serving up his cocktails - he's one of the best on the island. The Veranda store offers many essentials; we stop in frequently for pastries, drinks and snacks. The staff, Yubi, Yirara, and Chris treat us like family. As for Dawn Beach, OBBR manages the sargassum seaweed as well as any other beach on the island. Is the smell and mess unfortunate? - Absolutely, but it's a small price to pay in a Caribbean paradise - they work their tails off to clear it out - and you can be sure we tossed a few bucks to the machine operators - That's thankless work. They're making the very best out of a tough environmental problem - it is what it is for the entire region. Overall, we love OBBR and CBC. We'll continue to visit year after year. For the cruisers - try to get away from Phillipsburg (which is great), but there's so much more to this beautiful island!

Paid for beach front did not get it! Instead our room was facing the marina with the view of the parking lot and a generator running non stop. Had a leg injury prior to trip staff was unwilling to move our room so instead had to go up and down three flights of stairs multiple times with no elevator. No beach access at the resort, smelled terrible from the kelp. Advertised as a 5 star hotel, I would not even give it a 1 star. Staff was not accommodating nor friendly! Rooms were small and not updated at all, shower was not clean. Worst vacation ever! Will not return to St. Marten! Would not recommend this resort at all!

This resort hotel nearly makes full marks with some exceptions. A lovely location, having a car is a good idea as there is no place to walk to, so you must take a taxi, which is easily arranged. Excellent and friendly service from the restaurant staff where the food was consistently good and not overpriced. Shout out to the very personable golf cart porter, Jeremy, also. However, the desk staff was inconsistent - not sure of how to do usual hotel things (such as having sample menus on hand, giving a map of the resort or contacting another arriving guest) so sometimes helpful and sometimes frustratingly clueless. There is currently an influx of sargassum seaweed which is hardly the resort's fault, but makes swimming in the sea by the resort impossible. Bulldozers were out every day valiantly trying to clear it so the beach itself was useable for sunning. Not an ideal situation, but not unique in the Caribbean. The Infinity Pool and surrounding area was beautiful and pleasant. A real plus was that the rooms, although not luxurious, were fully stocked with a kitchenette, very comfortable beds and most important, absolutely spotless. And this is a quiet place at night too, unlike some other properties!

We had a wonderful, fun, relaxing vacation at Oyster Bay Resort. The drinks, food and waitstaff were excellent. A special shout out to Dave at the Infinity Bar by the pool, Dianne and Tanyeria at the Infinity restaurant. Grouper was excellent as well as the chicken Caesar salads. The restaurant was busy and these girls hustled and were friendly. For breakfast, the Verandah Bistro and Marketplace are the spot. Delicious breakfast sandwiches on French baguettes as well as pancakes, fruit, French toast. Everything was great. Our sweet servers Yari and Chris were attentive and friendly. The actual store has everything you need, drinks, alcohol, snacks, all reasonably priced. Plus, coffees and pastries to go. Yes, there was seaweed the first half of the week, but they made every effort to clear it. We rented a car and visited Orient Beach; we rented chairs and an umbrella for ten dollars at the orange restaurant. Great service and food. Beautiful swimming day and we went there twice. The other end of the beach is a nude beach, but it didn't affect us except for a few people walking by. Lastly, we booked a new tour with Eagle tours at the front desk. Sahara was most helpful and always pleasant!!! Promote her. We shopped and toured Philipsburg with a guide RT from Ama jewelry store. Very knowledgeable and beautiful store. Then snorkeling with Lassandro the captain and the excellent first mate Eddy. A wonderful experience. P.S. Jeremy was so friendly our first day at check in and helped with our bags. Also, The Big Fish restaurant close by is worth the trip and Mamas Pizza.
