Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Destin

We loved our stay at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Destin! It is conveniently located right across from the Henderson Beach State Park which was gorgeous to visit despite the cold weather. The indoor pool provided hours of entertainment for our 8 and 9 year old and my husband and I enjoyed swimming in January too. We even saw some snow flurries early Sunday morning which was very exciting for the kiddos! The front desk staff was so accommodating checking in and making sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Complimentary breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had! I could go on and on! This was the best hotel experience our family has had in many years. Definitely highly recommended by me!

Basically the only thing that went smoothly was the check in for the room, other than having to wait for the nighttime lady at the front desk for over 10 minutes to arrive back at the desk to check us in, with no excuse for why she was missing, the daytime lady was very attentive and had a much better attitude and you could tell had more experience working in customer service. We were offered and given a room on the first floor because of my disability. The room was clean, well stocked with towels, and housekeeping was accommodating with supplying us with extra hangers to hang up our clothes once they came out of the laundry room. The A/C surprisingly worked very well unlike the Courtyard by Marriot in Ocala, FL that was supposedly recently a refurbished room where the controls didn't work by the wall controls you had to use the ones on the unit itself, there was also a short in the bathroom light fixture switch, the laundry machines ripped us off for our money that the management didn't care about and left us waiting in the laundry room for the maintenance many for 30 minutes, and once he arrived neither did the building maintenance supervisor care. There was no petty cash to give us back the money we lost in the machines, and we were told to direct a letter to some company that was offsite or to try using a Credit Card in them to see if they worked...again terrible customer service, especially to a platinum member for the Marriot Hotels who we were staying there as his guest only because he got sick and was unable to make the trip and changed the reservations from Orlando to the new location to accommodate my stay!

Luckily we had out own shampoo and body washes for our toiletries because both were empty in our room in the shower/tub combination. Also, when we tried to use the Hot tub to soak in because the swimming pool was overrun with screaming children 2 Adults to supervise 8 children only 1 above the age of maybe 12-13 years old, we were told that it didn't work and that they were waiting on a part for it, that unfortunately it didn't work. The lady that worked in the kitchen was the laziest person that I've ever seen operating a kitchen in any of the Marriot chain kitchens. Breakfast was supposed to start at 6a.m. and at 6:10a.m. I had to ask her when she was going to start putting things out for breakfast because she was sitting down doing nothing as I stood there! I asked her several times if she could put out the stuff to make the waffles so that I could get mine cooking and it wasn't until 6:45a.m. that she finally started wiping the machines down to even start getting them ready. She couldn't bring out more that 1 thing at a time like they do at most other kitchens on a cart she carried them out 1 at a time like she was replacing an empty tray from the steamer basket. I asked for chocolate milk and was told we ain't got any, I asked if she could fill the orange juice her response was I'll get it in a minute. Needless to say I paid the extra money to stay at the Fairfield for the breakfast so that we could make the dive reservations the next morning and not have to stop for breakfast which would've ended up being faster, because we missed our reservations by 10 minutes at Water Colors for the dive boat for our last dive, even though we had already loaded up all of our luggage into our vehicle, showered, and only had to turn in the keys at the front desk to leave after eating breakfast. I even told the front desk manager that breakfast was supposed to start at 6a.m. not 6:45a.m.
