"well at least it is historical"

6.0

it is as travelling in time when you step inside this place that probably 60 years ago was wonderful. Having not been there at its golden age, I shall say that the wrinkles are more that the charme . Rooms are small, probably unchanged since its opening and very basic . Breakfast also extremely limited , There is pratically no staff , just one person that alternates its duties where necessary . There is abar that once we arrived was full of youngsters smoking waterpipes.... I mean history is a good thing , but here is more a museum than an hotel .

"Dated, Scarey. Needs doing up or pulling down !"

6.0

We stayed here one night. Booked through booking.com as had to stay SOMEWHERE on way home due to bad weather conditions. Well it is very clean but very dated. Winston Churchill is their claim to fame.1920's hotel and still 1920's decor. Very interesting - BUT we were the only guests in the huge hotel . I was very scared ! Long dark , empty corridors. Good Points = very clean. plenty of heating , hot water and good continental breakfast ( breakfast not included in booking price). Bad points= tired, dated, needs updating, opposite an old mine and old buildings. Typical East German industrial area. We did not see anyone only receptionist to book us in ..... and that was it !!!! Women dont go on your own ! It reminded me of the Munsters hotel or the one Jack Nicholson was looking after !!!!

"Could be so much more"

2.0

Stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip. It was booked by a colleague and we probably would have stayed elsewhere had there not have been a trade fair on which meant most places were booked out. The hotel dates back to pre-war with its claim to fame being Winston Churchill had stayed there in 1939 or something. By the looks of the decor in the hotel and the rooms, it hadn't been upgraded since his visit. As with many German hotels I have stayed in they are just so tired and outdated. With this one, it could be a fantastic hotel as the building is impressive but a lot of money would have to be invested to bring it up to even 3 star. The bed was reasonably comfortable but could have done with better pillows. The rest of the room was just shabby. The only meal we ate at the hotel was breakfast which was average. We ate in the town for dinner and were also shocked to find the hotel bar closed at 11pm every night. I would say the main plus about the hotel was the helpfulness of the staff but other than that, I doubt another stay here would be booked in a hurry.
