Cornell Hotel

Loved the themed hotel and the breakfast was delicious. Staff was so so kind and helpful. It is a chaotic neighborhood, but we were able to find street parking for the night which was a very economical option.

We were able to find street parking, but had to circle for a while first. There are convenient garages that make it easier if you’re willing to pay the garage price.

I am writing regarding Reservation No. 6472015900 booked through Booking.com for my stay at Hotel Cornell, San Francisco. Guest Name: Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha Reservation Details: • Check-in: 24 May 2026 • Check-out: 28 May 2026 • Room Booked: Junior Suite( 2 Pax – me and my wife) • Location: 715 Bush Street, Union Square, San Francisco, CA 94108 • Total Amount Paid: USD 801.32 Price Break-up: • Junior Suite: USD 612.85 • Taxes: USD 108.47 • Resort Fee: USD 80.00 • Total: USD 801.32 The reservation was made on 8 May 2026 through Booking.com. Upon arrival on 24 May 2026, we were informed by the reception staff, Ms. Yakelin, that the hotel's only elevator had been non-functional for more than two months. Since the Junior Suite booked by us was located on the 5th floor, and considering our age (I am above 60 years and my wife is 55 years), accessing the room without elevator service would have been extremely difficult and inconvenient. Accordingly, we requested an alternative room on a lower floor. Ms. Yakelin kindly shifted us to a room on the 2nd floor. However, this was a lower-category room than the Junior Suite originally booked and paid for. Throughout our stay, from 24 May to 28 May 2026, we repeatedly enquired about the difference in room tariff. On every occasion, the reception staff assured us that approximately USD 120+ would be refunded after managerial approval within 3–4 working days. Based on these assurances, we completed our stay and settled the full invoice through our American Express Card at check-in. I would also like to place on record that the hotel's only elevator had reportedly been out of service for more than two months prior to our arrival. Such a significant facility outage should have been clearly disclosed either at the time of booking on 8 May 2026 or, at the very least, communicated to us prior to our arrival.

Great location; the building has a lot of character/charm, including a historic lift that is (for the most part) operational (I did get stuck inside it once but was quickly helped because staff happened to be nearby). The room was quiet, even while located in the middle of the city; a safe feel of the neighborhood for walking around; and tons of restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The room and bathroom were clean.

When I checked into my room, the bathroom was not stocked with towels (which was very odd because how could they forget something so basic?), so I asked the front desk to send housekeeping to my room to deliver towels while I was out for the day. When I came back hours later, housekeeping still hadn't cleaned my room or left towels, so I had to ask the front desk a second time, which I found a little ridiculous for something that should've already been in my room upon check-in. Secondly, I wish they had an agreement with the parking garage across the street for discounted parking, since they will recommend it, but then they are not on the garage's list of hotel partners for which they offer 10% discounts —why not? Those garage employees also tried to get me to pay an extra fee for in/out privileges, which I had already paid for, so be careful with them. In terms of facilities, you should be aware that since this is an old hotel, there is no A/C. It was not hot enough to bother me, but if you need a very cool room to sleep in, you will have a problem. There was a very small lobby dining area with a microwave, and I did not go to the breakfast dining room in the basement, which was not accessible by elevator and not well-signed.

La foto de booking no tenía nada que ver con la de la realidad, habitación vieja sin reformar. Llegamos y nos mandaron a un quinto piso, nos dicen que el ascensor justo se acaba de estropear. Luego me dicen otros inquilinos que llevan días con el roto… me dicen en recepción que se pondrán en contacto conmigo y nunca recibí respuesta. QUINTO PISO SIN ASCENSOR

Excelente localização, quarto confortável, cama ótima. Recebem encomendas. O café da manhã é excelente, estilo buffet.
