Portland International Guesthouse

Super clean, organized, comfy place. As it is an older wooden building, the floors/stairs are very creaky, and our door would only close properly if we lifted it up, otherwise the wind from an open window would blow it open (or maybe ghosts?? mysterious), however you can get around this by locking the door. The breakfast options weren't great - plain cheerios or plain corn flakes, there was also apple & cinnamon oatmeal - but I did appreciate the different milk options. The unsweetened vanilla almond milk was nice. I wouldn't walk around the area in the evening/at night as there were plenty of shady characters - at one point we saw a lady very blatantly peeking into vehicles, so definitely lock your cars and bring belongings inside. However, there were so many cute restaurants/cafes/shops/pubs within walking distance, and walking around during the day was really nice.

Not much

Went during graduation - so parking was extremely difficult, but that it not any fault of the property! Lots of nightlife in the area. Building was easy to enter, retrieve my key, and go to my room. (I came late, so no host was there, which is fine.) Room was very small but cozy. Bed was very firm, but linens were clean and comfortable. I was worried about being noisy ("quiet time starts at 10") so I tiptoed to the bathroom and back, assuming there were other guests. Bathroom was very clean. I left early in the morning, so my stay was functional rather than indulgent. I didn't take advantage of the kitchen area, which looked like it had some light snacks, and a fridge, oven, etc., but that is a nice bonus. Also, I didn't see this until I was leaving, but there is a small library upstairs as well - thoughtful!

Bed was too firm but some folks might prefer that. There was a very small table and chair in the room, but not comfortable enough to relax and read. (Probably intended more for a small convenience, like planning your day.) That was okay because I wasn't staying long, but a comfier chair would be a nice addition. Shared bathroom, which isn't a huge deal, but I was hoping for a bathtub and I think there was only a shower. (It may be that it was in the description and I could have missed it.)

Lovely leafy neighborhood close to grocery shop and many restaurants. Nice kitchen area with all needed for a longer stay.

2 fights of stairs were a bit difficult to manage but was expected as was in the pre-visit info.
