Mayan Monkey Isla Mujeres | Social Hotel

Very clean, much appreciated. Limited compared to other hostels.

Firstly the negatives: I wasn’t told the pool would be out of use for my whole stay, this was a contributing factor to why I booked this hotel, no compensation. Secondly I paid extra for breakfast every morning. The menu can be misleading and portions less than described on some selected. Coffee wasn’t the best, never served spoon, only if asking for sugar for my coffee. Thirdly I paid a lot for my room, noise was like a work site most of the day and music was continuously the same beat, Dj had no imagination, even the WhatsApp group asked where the party was. The positives: great location, nice yoga and meditation classes by lotta. And activities like sushi making class etc. My room was nice. But over all over priced. Won’t get a holiday for many years now, so some disappointment. Book the nice hotel up the road with a swim up bar.

I stayed for a few nights here and loved it. There’s a lot of areas to lounge(beach, dock, shaded areas, pumping/bean toss game areas; and my room had a balcony with a hammock which I loved. The whole place was cleaned everyday, and in good condition. My only issues was the WiFi/tv wasn’t working and the water on site smelled kind of funky(I’m not sure if this is an island issue). Aside from that I had no complaints. We rented a golf cart from them, later had a flat and they were quick to switch it out with another one. Staff were very nice and welcoming. I will be definitely coming back. Oh FYI they do play loud music at nights, personally I loved this but if you’re a light sleeper I would just take this into consideration (they do provide ear plugs).

Las personas que están en recepción muy malas para ayudar mi secadora en el cuarto no servía y no había una extra en todo el hotel para que me la cambiaran tardaron dos días en ponerme una buena, los servicios del restaurante pesimos tienen mucho personal y todos parados nadie te atiende hasta que los llamas te traen un café y como 20 minutos después el azúcar y crema y eso por qué se los pides la verdad jamás me volvería hospedar ahí me metí a bañar y toda con jabón y se fue el agua tardo 20 minutos en regresar y los managers ni se diga se preocupan más por que música pone el dj que por ver que los clientes estén bien atendidos

My husband and I stayed here for a couple nights during a longer stay on Isla Mujeres. We upgraded to a jungle room but they don’t tell you it’s across the street from the resort. The front desk agent was a bit unfriendly, nice but seemed bothered we arrived to drop bags early which seemed very common given it was more of a fancy backpackers resort. The room itself has a lovely jungle feel but is bare minimum. No where to put anything and our toilet wouldn’t fill with water after the first flush. Definitely visit the sushi place next door for hibachi!

The location is amazing and the beach is so beautiful. The area on the beach is very paradise like. However one big issue during the whole stay was the loud music - both in the beach area and around the room (we had a jungle room). The music in the beach area is unnecessarily loud making it hard to talk and even read something. The music itself was good but why so loud? The music was an issue again in the room as there was a restaurant just next to it playing extremely loud music until 23:30 during the weekend. There’s a gap in the door which makes the music leak in and you can feel the bass in the room. Another minus is the service both at the reception and in the beach/bar area. In general very slow and not so attentive. Worth noting is also that there is a bathtub in the room but there’s not enough water to fill it - after filled about 25% the water stopped running.

Absolutely worth it! Highly recommend the Jungle room and every meal at the Mayan Monkey was fantastic.

Danny the manager was wonderful! We really felt like we were with family! The staff bent over backwards to accommodate the 8 of us! The property is beautiful! The food is amazing!

Unique but not a place go for R&R

Well, hostel is so impressive, for that price I felt like I booked some really expensive resort. Clean rooms, friendly staff, YOGA in the morning was just stunning, Thank you. I would recommend you upgrade or work on the pear because it was not supper comfortable to swim but if I will ever have a chance, I will definitely come one more time. Highly recommend!!!!
