Boca Brava Lodge

This was a return visit for us. For us, one of the main appeals is that it is so far off the beaten track that the area is never busy, and it is a great place to just wind down. They keep the facilities in good condition, and the staff are extremely pleasant and accommodating. It has a huge private beach to explore. The meals are good and reasonable. This a great place for those who are simply looking to get away for a bit.

Breakfast was great. The people catered to all our needs. The view was awesome. We saw many monkeys and colorful birds. We explored a couple of beaches around the island and found them amazing. It was as if we were the only ones there! Having the water birds, monkeys, and iguanas to be observed so close to us made it special.

As seniors, walking up the many steep stairs from the boat dock to the main office, with luggage, was indeed the hardest part of our adventure.

Staff was really friendly and I loved my cabin on the water. The facilities are incredible with water views and a wonderful dining/ sitting area with hammocks. There were trails around and it was safe so that I could walk through the forest to the beach by myself. There was no one on the beaches. They also arranged a full day boat tour to 3 islands for me that was very cheap There were howler monkeys in the trees in the mornings near my cabin and I enjoyed watching the fishing boats go by. A good local feel.

They were renovating, which is understandable, but I had to watch for wet paint and such. It aopeared that the upper bed in my cabin had been slept in, but my bed sheets and bed were clean. It is a down home funky place, so better to not expect lavish facilities, but it was all very accomadating, and maybe better because of it.
