"Heckava night"

At 2 am the fire alram went off. Totally ear piercing. Fine, it is supposed to be. Called the desk and confirmed it was a fire alarm. Went downstairs and the front desk said a homeless man walked in the front door and pulled the alarm nearest the door. Police responsed and the man was in custody. Question: Why was the front door open at 2 am? Every comparable hotel I go to locks the doors around 10 pm or so with access gained only with a guest's room card swipe. That keep the riff raff out. This nut walked in, pulled the alarm and apparently just wanted to go to jail. What if he walked in with a gun, pulled the alarm and just waited for the guests to come downstairs to pick them off in their pajamas? That is entirely possible in this currently insane world. Doors need to be locked after a certain reasonalble hour!!! Do you go to sleep in your house with unlocked doors? I assure you that I do not and I live in a high end neighborhood. This is just common sense folks.
