"Still as Good as ever!"

10.0

This was our 12th visit to Quinta Jardins do Lago and it was just as good as the other eleven. The hotel itself is exceptionally pretty and comfortable but the staff are, without exception, superb. They are attentive and welcoming and treat the guests as individuals. After our first visit we have never considered staying anywhere else in Madeira.

"A very special hotel set in beautiful gardens"

10.0

This was our first visit to Madeira and from the day we arrived and were welcomed by Salvador to the point that we left Quinta Jardins do Lago, we felt completely at home. All the staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in a quiet location uphill from the centre of Funchal. The hotel runs a regular courtesy bus to and from the centre and on occasions when it was full, they ran a second 'trip' immediately after the normal journey. Although some visitors do comment that it is some distance from the centre, we walked back 4 times during our 10 day stay. The hotel is set in the most beautiful large gardens which are a delight to stroll or relax in. They offer a weekly tour of gardens by the head gardener which we found very interesting. The gardens are complemented by a well designed swimming pool area with day time bar/restaurant. Also in the gardens is a 68 year old giant tortoise named Columbo who loves meeting guests. The hotel and the bedrooms are very well equipped and decorated and kept spotlessly clean. It is easy to see why there are so many 5 star reviews. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough and will definitely return.

"Perfect Maderia stay"

10.0

If you are thinking of booking this hotel, do it! You won’t regret it. Beautiful food, outstanding gardens, relaxing and clean pool, happy staff. We stayed for 5 nights, had our hire car for 2 days to do some walking and exploring (delivered and collected at hotel). We will definitely return.

"A quiet and luxurious splurge with beautiful gardens - don't miss the orchids!"

10.0

The reception and service were exceptional. My wife and I had some special requests related to allergies and the hotel responded right away making adjustments we asked for. Breakfast was delicious, varied (plenty of options for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians) and in a beautiful dining area with seating inside, in a conservatory area and outside in the garden.

We come from a warm place. At this season (late April) Madeira is relatively cold. The room was beautiful and roomy, but it was a little cold and we could not figure out how the heating / air conditioning worked. There is a thermostat and dial, but it did not seem to make much difference to the room temperature. We were also a little disappointed with the limited choice on the menu at lunch at the poolside restaurant. Not much for vegetarians in particular.

"Returning to paradise"

10.0

Returning after 6 years we found that this lovely hotel was as great as, if not even better than, we remembered it to be. The rooms clean and comfortable with spectacular views from the balcony. Upon our late arrival the staff gave us a royal welcome. The fantastic staff was something that we came to appreciate more and more during our stay. Breakfast was fantastic, we could find almost everything we possibly could wish for. We had dinners at the restaurant in the hotel, excellent food and as we love to try wines from the region, a great list of reasonable priced local and regional wines. The hotel is located a bit up from the very city centre, something we appreciated very much as there was a tranquility and peace that was accentuated by the large spectacular garden, Colombo the turtle (still there) and the nice pool area. Going back and forth to the centre of Funchal was easy with the shuttle service offered.

"Delightful Hotel - an experience not to be missed"

10.0

The level of excellence that the Jardin do Lago has achieved is, in this day and age, quite extraordinary. Certainly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The bedrooms are large, well furnished and extremely comfortable with balconies that overlook the fabulous gardens and views which take your breath away. The pool area is beautiful and seldom overcrowded with attentive staff providing drinks and light meals. The main restaurant is delightful serving gourmet dishes and a good selection of wines. I'm running out of superlatives now but must first, of course, mention the staff, all of which were friendly, helpful and very efficient. Staying in this hotel is an experience not to be missed.

"Åter till paradiset"

10.0

"Highly recommended"

10.0

This hotel was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We had a premium garden room with a beautiful view over the gardens and to the sea from our third floor balcony. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean with two comfy armchairs in the room; two wicker chairs on the balcony . Be aware the shower is over the bath which may be more tricky for those less mobile/confident. Lovely toiletries. The grounds are stunning and the pool wonderful. We would definitely recommend the garden tour with Michael, the botanist, whose knowledge and passion is inspiring. He gives lots of interesting information without lots of specific names!! The staff are what really makes the difference here; every staff member we met was friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. They will do everything to help you have a relaxing and positive experience. A great team who are clearly well led and managed. Thank you. The 65 year old tortoise, Colombo, is very special x

"Lovely Holiday with Good Food"

10.0

Lovely clean hotel with large, well-kept gardens and a spacious bedroom. Our room overlooked the kitchen terrace in front, with gardens to the left rather than just overlooking the gardens. My only negative with our room was that it was not very soundproofed. We could hear people walking in the room next door and people opening and shutting doors and drawers in the bedroom below at midnight. However, the blackout blinds enabled us to sleep well. It is located up a steep hill out of Funchal, but walkable downhill past the Convent and Casa Museu Frederico de Freitas, which are both worth a visit. We used the shuttle bus several times to and from the main promenade. We also used a taxi once, which cost €10. The food was excellent. My wife has a milk intolerance, and Adriano was careful to explain what on the menu was suitable and what changes they could make. It made a pleasant change from some places that just offer a sorbet for dessert. Each morning and evening lactose-free spread was brought out without us having to ask. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. A very enjoyable holiday.
