"Five stars ⭐️"

10.0

We just got back from a 7 day stay at Barcelo Maya Tropical. 2 adults and two kids 13 and 10. We don’t have one bad thing to say. Everything was wonderful from the food, to the beach, to the pool, the service, the staff, the drinks and the activities on and off site. This was our first stay and I will not hesitate to go back. Mexico is a beautiful country! No regrets!

"Don't Book"

2.0

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my experience at your hotel. From the moment I arrived, I did not feel welcomed. While there were occasional moments of decent service, they were inconsistent and did not make up for the overall experience. My most concerning experience occurred at the poolside restaurant, particularly during an interaction with Senior Moises Soberanis. A member of our party was not feeling well, and instead of demonstrating understanding or flexibility, he insisted that one person would have to sit alone rather than simply accommodating us by adding an additional chair to the table. What was even more troubling was his demeanor during this interaction. At one point, he began removing his gloves in a manner that felt confrontational, as if he was preparing for an altercation. This behavior was inappropriate, unprofessional, and lacked basic hospitality and situational awareness. Additionally, the individual who identified themselves as a supervisor was not helpful and did not appear to have the authority or willingness to address the situation appropriately. Overall, this experience fell far below expectations. Based on this visit, I would not recommend your establishment to others. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these concerns to improve future guest experiences.

"Beautiful get-a-way with FANTASTIC STAFF"

10.0

Fantastic family friendly vacation. They make everything very convenient while away. So much to do or if you want to just relax you can do that too! The staff cannot do enough to accommodate you. This is the reason we return. They are AWESOME! My only suggestion- go off season. We went our second time during spring break and boy was it BUSY (to be expected) but we had to get up super early every morning just to reserve lounges by the beach or pool. Otherwise you're sitting on a towel. But the place itself- cleanliness, staff, grounds, food, drinks, atmosphere - VERY PLEASED. I would definitely recommend.

"Good for Family trips"

4.0

Overall, it was an okay resort. My kids did enjoy it. But as adults, I would definetely not stay stay if it was for a couple vacation. When we travelled there the first time, the hotel was not full and it was a very nice experience. This here though, the hotel was sold out. We had 1 king bed for 4 people the entire week and was barely given any towels at the end of our stay. Staff was not friendly and I did not enjoy it as much as last year. Shows where exactly the same as last year. Breakfast and lunch buffets did not offer any variety (same every day). Payed for the premium package but was absolutely not worth the price we paid.

"Would not stay again"

4.0

Very poor customer service. Room had mold and everything was damp for our entire stay. Many employees can't understand English and are rude. May be better during regular seasons but definitely don't go during spring break.

"Barcélo Maya Tropical - Would Definitely Go Again"

8.0

We went with our family in a group of 10 including three children aged 5 and under. Pros: - it is a spectacular resort that is well maintained; - visitors have access to other sister resorts (however, for some you need to pay extra to access); - food was consistently good at the buffets (especially the traditional mexican dishes) and à la cartes (the seafood one was our favourite à la carte); - lots of activities to do from shopping in the mall, to mini golf, kids activities at the pools, etc.; - the beaches are beautiful (because of the rocks bring water shoes!!) - we loved the Tropical and Colonial pools and spent much of our time there. Cons: -the service is best described as inconsistent even with tipping (staff at check-in was legitimately rude and incompetent); - signage isn't great and can be confusing when you first get there; - rooms are small and the double beds are pretty uncomfortable (our room was also quite stuffy and musty smelling); - there are some broken things that should be addressed (i.e. broken door handles in the men's washroom); - à la carte meals would take anywhere from 1:30 - 2:30. I can do 1:30 but with little ones, anything more is too long and I would skip. Pro tip: The resort does not officially allow people to reserve chairs at the pools yet everybody does it anyways. To deal with this, either get up extremely early and do as the others do or just take people's stuff off chairs and move the chair elsewhere. We appreciated the resort's efforts in curbing this (staff would remove towles from chairs early morning).

"Average at best"

6.0

Nice property but staff and food were overall disappointing. Rooms were good size but our room flooded from clogged drain (not uncommon) and the room had a sulphur smell all week. Staff were rude, talking about guests in Spanish not realizing they could be heard and understood.
