I really enjoyed myself. The complex is amazing. The food is always good. One problem. The flies n the mosquitoes were very bad. I had to get an allergy injection from the onsite clinic after the normal allergy meds didn’t help the pain swelling n itching. So if you come to this property make sure you bring mosquito repellent and allergy medications.

"HOTEL DOES NOT HONOR ONEKEY BENEFITS"

I booked a trip here recently and was entitled to a free room upgrade and food/beverage credit as promised by hotels.com. Neither were honored at check in or in subsequent follow up (not sure if this is the hotel or hotel.com's fault), but it is all the more egregious because I was aggressively "upsold" to a bigger room for a fee upon check-in, so clearly the upgrade was available. The good: Most of the staff very polite and friendly. The dining options were good and varied. The outdoor features of the property are generally well maintained. The price is reasonable, but just know this is in no way a 5-star resort, perhaps 3-4. The ugly: While the (paid-for upgraded) room was spacious, it was SEVERELY dated and not worthy of the Shangri-La brand. The couches and chairs showed many signs of scratches and wear. There were no updated plug-in connections for USB, etc. that you will now commonly find at lesser quality properties.

Lovely property location and clean rooms sadly the VIP perk of the room upgrade was not honoured . Bait al Bahar seafood was was absolutely outstanding on two occasions

"Great value for a family vacation in Muscat"

The hotel is really good and is one of the best value offers for a family vacation in Muscat. The facilities are really good in terms of the pools and beach. Food is good quality, while the kids portions could be 20% bigger compared to what is usually served in the UAE for example. Wifi works well except some social media like Telegraph is blocked.

I enjoyed my stay at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, Muscat. The view of the sea from my balcony was stunning. The room was nice, but the furniture was a little warped (probably from the humidity from the sea). I had one bad experience with the Samba restaurant for lunch and I would suggest parents not allow their children to serve themselves at breakfast. Some children were using their hands to take foods like bread vice using tongs. This is not sanitary. Also, I think someone was smoking on a balcony below me, as I could smell strong cigarette smoke while sitting on my balcony. That said, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Note: there is an adults-only property at Shangri-La.

It’s a beautiful resort but I wish I had known that Al Waha side is mainly for families. We were not expecting lots of screaming kids the entire time. I would have stayed at Al Bandhar or Al Husn. The food was excellent and the service was good but slow. Especially ordering coffee and drinks.
