The property needs a lot of updates, the staff were friendly, the tablecloths in the dining area weren’t changed daily, barely had staff consistently available, poor job of managing the wood interiors in the rooms. The pool wasn’t cleaned properly daily, they dont have wash cloths only the bigger sized floor mat towel, then I was given pool towels from the front desk and used them later in the day about an hour after and the towels were infested with red ants which bit me profusely. When I complained to several staff including the owner they looked at me with a sad face and didnt offer anything to rectify the bites/allergic reaction I had all over my body. Thank God I didnt use the towel on my toddler otherwise this trip couldve ended before it started. Hoping expedia could rectify this for me. I want to go to the hospital but I am afraid of overseas medical care. Being bit by red ants while on a tropical vacation was definitely a downer. The hotel has amazing views of the ocean.

"Absolutely magical, one-of-a-kind experience"

10.0

After staying at the Blue Haven for a week, I feel like I am on a personal mission to convince more Canadians/more tourists the world over to visit Tobago. We've visited places across the world and the island is gorgeous, under-visited, and ecologically fascinating/breath-taking. So...at the top of my to-do list? Sharing our awesome experience at the Blue Haven, which is one of the most magical hotels we have ever stayed at, after extensive global travels. For discerning travellers or people who want a highly personalized stay at a truly unforgettable location right off the ocean (literally, right above the crashing ocean waves next to to flowering tropical trees), with sea breezes wafting over you, this is FOR YOU. The hotel has an incredibly interesting history and there are neat elements all over the property -- like a cannon by the pool and a view that will take your breath away. (This is hard to stress enough, but you'll see...this is not something you'll experience at places in Cuba or Costa Rica...you are right next to the ocean, with wide balconies that are facing a beach or the port of Scarborough, complete with palms and glittering lights) The hotel has incredible character, the staff and owner are incredibly kind and caring, the breakfast is absolutely delicious and has tons of selection (and nutritious options). The chef for the kitchen makes dishes that have both local elements but taste like gourmet home cooking. Best food we have ever eaten on vacation. The stuffed lobster on the last night brought the house down. After reading reviews online, we were a bit nervous -- there seemed to be a lot of complaints about the facilities at the Blue Haven. So, travellers, if you are looking for what one other reviewer called a "sterile experience" (loved this term) or what I would term as a traditional all-inclusive over-processed "shopping mall" experience with absolutely perfect facilities, then this is not the hotel for you. Travellers who dig the Blue Haven will have more boutique tastes, and need to have a bit of an open mind, especially keeping in mind the overall slump in tourism that has hit Tobago since the 1990s. Once you get past that and go with the flow (i.e. yes, there may be a broken tile or two), you will be flabbergasted by the scenery and general laidback vibe permeating the property/island as a whole. The famous beach next door (the property looks at it) is notably public, which also is really cool. The area is incredibly safe and there are some incredible sites to see of historical importance to the island, away from the tourist vibe of Crown Point. So...boutique/adventure travellers...if you're interested in a more out-of-the-box resort with the historical character, deeply personalized/knowledgable/caring staff, and hand-crafted breakfasts and dinners, and inimitable views, this is truly the spot for you. You'll love the staff -- thank you Bless, Antony, George, Chef Marlon and Karl (and all the others) for being so kind and informative. Runners, please note this is a location you can run down gorgeous Bacolet Bay during the day, while keeping an eye out for traffic. You are about a 10-minute drive from downtown Scarborough and 20 minutes from Crown Point, which has all the traditional tourist restaurants. Spinners, there was a rad fitness studio called Bay Fitness about one kilometre away from the hotel where we did a spin class...also SO RAD. Again, Blue Haven was incredible, if you're willing to be a bit flexible about decor and focus on what really matters -- the history, the stunning and one-of-a-kind ocean view, the people, the overall safety of the area/the property, the view of Scarborough, the incredible pool on the back balcony, and the feeling that you are experiencing something that will be uniquely yours. Magic. (And we'll be back...)

The hotel is extremely old & extremely run down! The rooms are filthy, dates and the furniture is falling apart. The mattress was covered with one flimsy sheet, two pillows and two single roll out duvets for a double mattress it was actually disgusting. We then pulled out the bed to find hair, mould, cobwebs and so much DUST! Breakfast- the cold stuff was never on ice, just floating on a bucket of water. Breakfast was until 10am, we arrived most days at 9.30am to find the buffet pretty much empty. When we asked the chef if it’s possible for them to top up certain things her response was, “whatever is left that is it!" Not a security guard in site, anyone can drive into the hotel and go as they please. When asked if there were any security on site front desk said “they come now and again!” The wifi never worked. Appliances in the room dont work, only two lights on the patio worked. The pool is black, dirty & dated. The “beach bar” is an old abandoned shack with no beach chairs, service or any attention from the hotel. We stayed for 4 days and the rooms were cleaned ONCE, front desk used the excuse, “house keeping must of skipped your room, we can send you towels now” The "massage deck" does NOT EXSIT! None of the photos online reflect the hotel, it's a scam! The owner is dishonest and selling guests lies about his hotel! When I told the owner how terrible my stay was, he told me too bad it and it is the leading hotel! DO NOT STAY HERE

"Hostel! NOT a hotel"

2.0

Check in was smooth, however not a soul around, it felt like a ghost town. The hotel is extremely old & extremely run down! The rooms are also old, dirty and the furniture is falling apart. The mattress was covered with one flimsy sheet, two pillows and two single roll out duvets for a double mattress it was actually disgusting. We then pulled out the bed to find crumbs, cobwebs and so much DUST! Breakfast- the cold stuff was never on ice, (yogurt, cheese etc...) just floating on a bucket of water. Breakfast was until 10am, we arrived most days at 9.30am to find the buffet pretty much empty. When we asked the chef if it’s possible for them to top up certain things her response was, “whatever is left that is it, we are not replenishing anything.” Security- Not a security guard in site, anyone can drive into the hotel and go as they please. When asked if there were any security on site front desk said “they come now and again!” The wifi- doesn’t work, anywhere or anytime. Appliances in the room - the bedside lights never worked, the fan never worked, only two lights on the patio worked. The pool- we aren’t really the swimming pool type however it was also very very dirty & dated. The “beach bar” is an old abandoned shack with no beach chairs, service or any attention from the hotel. The beach itself is beautiful. We stayed for 4 days and the rooms were cleaned ONCE, front desk used the excuse, “house keeping must of skipped your room, we can send you towels now” This hotel is not worth a single penny and the management team should be ashamed for using the advertising photos as none of the photos online reflect the hotel. The magazines in the room are from 2014 - to tell you how old! This hotel is appalling and not up to ANY hotel standards. However, thank you to Kevin at front desk for being kind, polite and helpful. The location is great, a car is recommended, however don’t book this hotel.

Out of the way, away from the "busy" street. Loved felling asleep to the ocean waves and waking up to the same sound. Going back next year with our kids.

"WORST PLACE EVER STAYED"

2.0

My husband and I booked through a reputable airline who should not be selling this hotel. We were the only 2 guests. The hotel is rundown and neglected The food appalling and they didnt even have coconut milk to make a cocktail. The beach us full of debris and the pool so filthy not been cleaned for months. In the end we got our airline to move us as we couldn't stay any longer. If only I had read the reviews prior to booking we would not have booked here.

The hotel needs a complete overhaul! Being the oldest hotel in Tobago, it was very disappointing enough is not be done to restore this hotel to its grandeur. With that being said, the staff were exceptional! Christian was superb! He did his best to give us a room with a view to die for! The room was spacious and although dated, we didn’t want to leave the room because of the view. It made up for the lack of everything that was missing from the pictures that were posted on Expedia. The owner needs fix the property!!
