Hostal HPC Portocolom

To be honest, this hostal is not worth the money they charge for their rooms (ath least not during high oder middle season). At night, the garbage collector wakes you up and after that the collector of glasses will not let you fall asleep. The water of the shower is as salty as the sea, just 50m away. Additionally, don't expect hot water! The staff is friendly, but the hostal is definitively not worth its money. A very disappointing hostal!

Have stayed in 7 or 8 Majorcan hotels and self catering places but this beats them all. Not on grounds of luxury, as the acommodation is no better than a UK Travel-lodge or a Formule une in France but because the rooms are quiet, parking is plentiful, easy and free,, there is free wifi and use of a pc. One has a balcony to hang kit out to dry (Lycra if you must know!) and space to put bikes safely. The beach at Cala Marcal has never been crowded when we have been but possibly lt may be in high summer. The staff are friendly and helpful and this seems to generate a good atmosphere in which guests acknowledge each other, which is not all that usual. The reason for the enthusiasm is that the breakfasts are really excellent and varied. You can stuff yourself and last until dinner if need be. Even better is the fact that the HPC restaurant is really exceptional as indeed are the 4 or 5 others within 200 metres. If you want cheaper typical pizzas and basic grub then you can get that 1km walk away at Cala Marcal. Have been before and will list this as preference #1 for Majorcan stays

Excellent value for money. A very comfortable room with aircon and wifi. The staff are very pleasant and caring. Perfect for an overnight or weeks stay.

To be honest we had a problem of noise with the first room but were immediately given a different room which was lovely. Clean, large, two balconies, ample storage space, aircon and wifi. The staff were extremely friendly and obviously spoke various languages. I would have given five stars but to me the only thing lacking was a kettle in the room. We will definitely return.

For anybody who wants to be close to the water and in the "center" of Portocolom, this is the right place. Clean but lousy looking rooms in a back house across a little backstreet. Breakfastroom is very nice and open to the mail street along the water line.

The 'hostal' is managed by the restaurant visible in the picture, and is located in a very good position in Porto Colom, in a rear street with respect of the avenue of the restaurant. We stayed in a 'standard' double room ('superior' rooms seem to be available, too), equipped with a small balcony, wi-fi, television, and air-conditioning (which may be a must-have in Mallorca during summer!). The breakfast was offered in the restaurant space and was very good. Soap, sheets and towels were provided (as expected), but we found no shampooing or shower soap. It must be said that the room was not cleaned every day (we stayed one week). Walls are thin, that means noise may be an issue (we found it a bit noisy sometimes). However, the overall quality is fine considering the price paid and we were happy with our stay.

The restaurant and hotel are part of the same. The Hotel was average and had no lift, which was difficult for my mother. On being shown to the room, it was dirty, the bed was not made, and the bathroom was dirty. There was also a smell of cigarette smoke. The hotel staff inspected the room immediately and apologized as the room had not been cleaned, and showed us to a another room. This second room was clean and basic with air conditioning, which was great. There was a small balcony that overlooked the service road, so with the door open it was very noisy during the day. The view from the restaurant was very pretty and was almost grecian - a must to people watch. The breakfast was adequate but options were not offered if you did not want what was on offer. The restaurant was very well appointed and pretty. I had fish courses and it was probably the best I have had, however, the service was moody from time to time. Make sure you do not have anyone travelling who finds stairs difficult as there are no ground floor rooms - access to the hotel is through the back door, and into another building. I would say this hotel is a a very good 2 star, but no more. Would I go again? Yes I probably would as the location is fabulous and access to taxi's and bars, which is very quiet, is all I would need.

Cool hostel, very fresh and nice restaurant - good food. The entrance is slightly confusing since there is no reception, the restuaruant is actually the reception and they guide you to the back outisde where a small block of apartments are. Rooms were perfectly good for the price and best of all - there is air condition!! Very necessary. Portocolom is not the place to lie and sunbathe, but if you're visiting the Drach Caves or driving through the island looking for real local places - this is a brilliant stopover. We had a great time there watching the semi-finals of the worldcup with the Spanish people at the HPC restaurant, good staff and good value for money.
