"A lot to like"

8.0

Big old style beach holiday hotel which is used by a number of tour companies. Reception area is big and spacious and attractively furnished in navy upholstery with white piping. Staying here is like going back in time about 30 years which is rather charming. Lovely sea front location with beautifully maintained gardens and pool area and right on the beach with their own beach beds on the sand (though the beach appears to have eroded considerably since photos taken). Lovely place to relax for a couple of days to break up a road trip. Not a lot around it though so you really need a car to get to any kind of range of restaurants or bars. There is a promenade area in Torre Canne but that was quite dull and it is about 25 mins walk away. Rooms are quite basic but good mattress and very comfortable. Well worth paying for a sea view room. Basic bathroom which was rather dark but shower good. Poor sound insulation which was a problem. Conversation carried clearly and I was pleased I could not understand the languages next door to us. Breakfast was OK. At this price level I expect to see good selection of cut fruit on the buffet. I ended up requesting a sharp knife and chopping up apples, oranges and bananas for my breakfast. I also found the dining room rather dark and gloomy. But staff were very helpful and responsive. Good lunch food offering at garden café. Every inch of the hotel was spotlessly clean. The cleaning staff do an amazing job. All the staff do an amazing job. I cannot speak highly enough about them. Everything is done to help their guests. Requests for extra pillows and hangers were met in minutes. The guys looking after the sun loungers were beside you as soon as you needed anything but not in the way otherwise. One night a TV was blaring in an adjoining room. I put up with it for a good while assuming it would be turned off. Eventually I rang reception and I regretted I had not called them earlier as the night porter had the situation resolved within five minutes.

"A green oasis by the sea"

8.0

The garden with trees, very well groomed and kept. The swimming pool. The outdoor space

The restaurant. Too expansive for the quality of the food. The rooms are small and above all with no soundproofing (so one is in the sme room with his/her neighboors)

"Good hotel, recommended"

8.0

We have just returned from a weeks stay here as part of a Newmarket tour group. This is a good hotel, we had a high room (511) which had an excellent view out to say and across to the resort. The room itself was a little pokey but was adequate for our needs. There is entertainment which is quite good, a very friendly hotel with pleasant staff everywhere. Nice lounges inside and out and a nice bar. Swimming pool is great although a bit cold when you first get in. Outside areas are very pleasant and there was never any shortage of sunbeds. Everywhere was nice and clean and rooms well serviced each day. The restaurant - all food was very tasty with lovely flavours. We struggled to understand the menu (you choose in the morning for the meal at 1930 each night which is really a bit too late for our liking) so all it needs is a line in English on the menu. Food however, depending on where you sit in the restaurant is either nice and hot or nearly cold, also takes a long time to arrive. As a group we occupied about a quarter of the restaurant, but, the pecking order seems to be Germans first, the far end of our group next, then the back of the group and us in the middle last, it was never rotated. As a result we waited 45 minutes each night for the first course which was then almost always only warm as it had been standing waiting in the kitchen before coming out. Also the food was often well overcooked and tough or undercooked even pork which is not good, even omelettes at breakfast could come raw in the middle. Interestingly, on the last night following intervention by our tour manager our group was served first so we received our meal after only 20 minutes and it was hot. Just shows what can be done. Just needs organising, bearing in mind what everyone has chosen what they want and it is always at 1930 there is no excuse to wait another 45 minutes for the first course. Anyway, restaurant aside, a really good place to stay in a good location. One oddity, some of our rooms experienced the TV switch itself on for no reason in the middle of the night, very strange. This even occurs in empty rooms so if you are next door you get disturbed. Overall I still recommend this hotel for many reasons.

"Clean, comfortable, quiet, welcoming - right on the water's edge."

8.0

Such a nice hotel - well-appointed rooms, clean, fresh, good public areas. The food was delicious - lovely buffet breakfast, 3 courses + salad at dinner, generous portions, nice presentation. Lovely waiter/waitress service - big shout out for Paolo, Antonella and Daria, as promised! They were so warm and helpful. The swimming pool is a really good size - unfortunately, it was so cold in the first week of April that swimming was not an option for me. Music entertainment every evening - I didn't go, but several of my fellow tour group said it was good every night. I was a little peeved to discover that the gym wasn't open - although there didn't seem to be a real reason for this. The hotel itself is a really good place to stay, and I'd certainly recommend it - however, it has to be said that it's not in the best location unless you have a car. It's a mile into the village (Torre Canne) along very poor pavements, or slightly less if you walk along the beach, which is a nice stroll. But the village is tiny, with very little in the way of bars, cafes or restaurants. There are 2 mini-markets - certainly one of them is barely 10 foot square. There is almost no public transport (at least in April), so if you have a 'day off' from a tour, don't expect to be able to go off somewhere on your own, if you don't have a car. But then, you could do a lot worse than sit by the pool, with a book and a drink, or in the bright and open lounge/bar area.

"Great Hotel experience…….."

8.0

We recently returned from this Hotel, a tour with Newmarket Travel, Luca was a most helpful tour guide and Mario was an amazing driver, to say the least!! This Hotel is in an enviable position, right on the beach. Our first impression was good, very clean on entering reception, friendly staff. Up to our room on the fourth floor, on entering the room we were very pleased, it had a perfect sea view, no balcony, but that did not matter. The room was spacious, large double wardrobe, which I made use of! There was a large table, which could do with a mirror above, small TV, but then I had not come away to watch TV anyway. The bathroom was good, powerful shower, nowhere to dry our towels, so had to lay them across the chair, not ideal. As for the towels, small bath ones and totally useless hand ones, reminded us of tea towels, so drying hair was a frustrating experience, as I personally never do mine with a hairdryer! The room was cleaned each day with fresh towels, so cannot find fault with the cleanliness at all, immaculate in fact, as was the rest of the main areas, always clean, staff friendly and helpful. I asked for two more pillows and had them in my hands immediately, now that is good service. Now we move to the dining room experience……Breakfast was plentiful with the usual continental fare, of cheese, meat, juices, breads, yogurts and fruit, so plenty to choose from, plus teas, coffees and I had amazing hot chocolate given to me by the lady with glasses, so very helpful, polite and professional, as was the two that served us all week, tall guy with beard, he was very obliging too. At times we did feel a little rushed. In the evenings, everyone queued, or tried to anyway, for our salad, which was plentiful, but became quite an ordeal after several days, with bustling and jostling, slight flared tempers too, just too many people trying to serve themselves, something needs to be done differently about the salad bar areas and how many they accommodate at any one time! All the main dishes were cooked to perfection, we didn’t always want two, so opted for just one a few times, it came hot and we throughly enjoyed what we ate, followed by the desserts, usual tart and cake like fare but all the same were good. We did use the bar each evening, either prior to dinner or afterwards, friendly staff once again, some entertainment, which I could take or leave, nice background noise though. The sofas were all very comfortable and always clean, plenty of tables and chairs to sit at. The outside areas of the Hotel were very well looked after, guys always there first thing, pool cleaning, leaf blowing, on hand during the day to assist with anything. The outside restaurant was too, pizza and toasted sandwiches, always enjoyable, cooked properly, with helpful and friendly staff, great views to be had from dining out there too. We chose to walk along the beach into Torre Cann village on three occasions and always looked forward to returning to the Hotel area, we used the sun beds in the shaded areas on several occasions, again, a lovely view from laying on those, although we were unable to lay for long, as they can become fairly uncomfortable. I would like to extend a grateful thanks to the Restaurant staff and especially to the lady with the fair hair and glasses, also to the tall guy with the beard for this friendly, professional and helpful service, sorry did not get their names. We were sad to leave the Hotel, as we looked back last Tuesday evening from our coach as it left the car park, all the lights on around the Hotel, my heart sank as we knew we were off back to Blighty! Thank you….x
