The staff are local Fijian villagers. These people were awesome in every way! We made sincere friendships with several of the staff while there. They also took awesome care of a bad cut I got on my hand when I slipped and feel while wading rocks fishing (the hospital was out of the dark ages and a scary place). The I hope to go back just to continue building friendships with the true Fijian locals. The locals also take pride in Mango Resort as if it is a representation of themselves since it is adjacent their village. If not for the staff, the resort would be a failure. The owner does not take care of the property (he did put a new roof on one house while we were there, the first time in 20 years so maybe he will start to do proper upkeep??). The owner underpays his staff also but the staff love 'their resort' and take pride in it despite the bad ownership. The showers do not drain and have not for a long time. The on-demand gas hot water heaters shut off every minute or so without warning so I had to constantly be fooling it into restarting by turning off the cold water and then to prevent getting scalded, would have to carefully turn back on cold water once I heard the gas flame ignite again... The owner needs to put shelving into the bures (houses) so one can get their clothes out of suitcases that have to otherwise lay on the floor... Coral Coast is a poor region, not a place for people expecting a rich peoples resort vacation. Go to outer island for that!

What I would say is unique about the resort is the people. Despite compensation they all take time to get to know you on a deeper level than just worker and guest. The one that stood out most to me was Jon the activities director and maintenance supervisor.

The staff were incredibly friendly. They remembered my name, ran great activities, sang beautifully, were helpful and charming. The facilities were basic, but charming, and suitable for the price. The restaurant food was good, well-priced. Good breakfast.

The staff were lovely and the location was great though would recommend a rental car if staying there. I liked that it was a smaller resort so there was always day beds and chairs available and the pool was never over crowded. The bure wasn’t serviced everyday which was disappointing especially as our shower flooded the whole bathroom floor. Also more towels would of been great

Location is perfect and view from main area is lovely. Free tea, coffee and water for guests all day is a bonus compared to what the charges are in towns for these things. Staff are lovely and the reef out front is lovely for a snorkel. Accommodation is in need of a facelift but was suitable for us. Loved the outdoor shower.

"Beautiful location"

We stayed here 12 years ago, when we had a wonderful stay. The location was and still is stunning. This trip we brought our children and they loved the pool and the beach. The food was okay, some of the portions were quite small, although the chef was very helpful in preparing vegan dishes for us. We stayed in a garden lodge, but didn't realise it was attached to another lodge, which meant we could hear everything in the next room, as well as the very noisy kids in the lodge across from us. It seems as if management haven't kept up with the maintenance, ie there were many holes in the bure roof, a bird even popped in one morning! The site would definitely benefit from more attention to detail especially to cleanliness in the guest rooms. The staff are all so lovely and friendly, even remembering our names. The bar closes at 11pm, it would be nice if it could open a bit later. There's no air con onsite, which is preventing us from rebooking, which is such a shame as we love it here.

Bulla. Mango Bay really is as beautiful as the photographs suggest. The accommodation suits the location and the staff are wonderful. If you are booking through Expedia, make sure you are booking what you think you are - many of us had issues with room allocation. I thought I had booked a single room and ended up in a 7 bed dormitory for a while (by myself, so that was ok - had to negotiate a move when they wanted me to share with 3 others!) Management could be a bit more professional and the snorkelling gear needs to be looked after (or take your own). Also, check the weather - wet season is WET so if you want endless sunshine, do your research before you go. It is a long way "from the shops" and 950 m from the bus. But buses are frequent and part of the adventure. And you can walk along the beach to Namatakula Village at low tide - a wonderful thing to do. So allow yourself to slip into Fiji time and Mango Bay is a fabulous place for a relaxing holiday.
