Historic Summit Inn

This is a beautiful old inn with a great pool and hot tub that has spectacular views. The dining menu was disappointing in that it is neither diabetic friendly nor gluten-free-friendly. Other than the menu, we loved this hotel.

Trip was amazing. Beautiful scenery, kind staff, not the best breakfast but it's wonderful for a home cooked meal and those who are snowed in

My husband & I are from the Pittsburgh area and come up to Ohiopyle quite often & have driven past the Historic Summit Inn many times. This weekend we decided to stay for a romantic getaway. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a beautiful exterior. Once inside, we were surprised by the grandeur of the heirloom lobby complete with an upright grand Steinway piano from the late 1800s and the grande double staircase complete with original woodwork and stained glass windows. The front desk staff was friendly and informative and made us feel very welcome. We were then given directions to our room. (Insert record scratching noise). We opened the door to our room and you would have thought you had just opened King Tut’s tomb. The smell of mold & mildew was overwhelming. We knew it was a historic building & were prepared for the possibility of a slight musty odor that can come with an aged building. However we discovered that the moldy smell was coming from the wall unit air conditioner and not the room itself. Understanding that this was a 118 year old hotel, we were happy to overlook the peeling paint & wallpaper. We made reservations for dinner in the Mae dining room and were looking forward to a nice romantic meal. The hostess was nice & sat us immediately. Our server was very friendly & attentive, but the food left much to be desired. Even though it didn’t take long for the food to arrive, it was room temperature & mediocre at best. Against our better judgement, we decided to give the restaurant another chance for breakfast the next morning. There were only two tables seated, so we thought we would be able to eat quickly and head out for our day of hiking & cave exploration. But boy were we wrong! It took a very long time for our server to take our drink order. It took even longer for our food. Two tables that were seated after us got their food before us. All we ordered was eggs, sausage & home fries, which took 45 minutes to arrive. All of the food for some odd reason had a bitter, metallic taste. The sausage was gritty & dry, as if it had been pre-cooked and reheated and the home fries were cold. We loved the historic charm of this hotel, but the food was overpriced and questionable in quality and the wait time was ridiculous for the empty dining room. Several areas of this hotel were in desperate need of cleaning, especially the main restroom off the lobby.

Wonderful property with nice pools. Food is excellent and many dishes to choose from. Great staff!!!! Gorgeous views, a favorite place of ours for years.
