Pedras d'el Rei

I had 5 days there out of season to explore the Ria Formosa coast and a further trip up into the Algarve Hills around Barranco do Velho, which was easily accessed via Tavira and Sao Bras d' Alpotil. The N125 runs right along the coast, and Pedras is just off this. From here i got to Castro Marim, Quinta Marim and Olhao easily inside around 35 minutes, but travelling early in the morning. Parking is usually available outside the apartments, but it's a big site, and lost some time driving about trying to work out the block/apartment numbering system, which i assume has evolved as the place has grown.

Unfortunately Pedras del Rae has seen better days, the accomodation is very basic, rooms damp and poorly heated. We upgraded to an apartment for 4 people but the kitchen equipment wasn't sufficient for self catering, only a microwave and 2 electric hobs, no oven,kettle or wine glasses and cork screw. It really does require a lot of investment to bring it up to standard.

We were upgraded from a studio to a very nicely equipped one bedroom apartment. It's not a hotel, but rather a unique neighborhood of homes and condo units around a central reception area about 2 km from the nearest town. We stayed an extra night.

We had a very enjoyable time in Pedras D'el Rei,the rooms are very clean & comfortable & the whole complex (pool & grounds)are kept very clean & the staff are very friendly and helpful especially with directions etc, we enjoyed the short train ride to & from Barril Beach which is outstandingly beautiful, if you didn't want to travel away from this complex during your stay there is everything you would need to have a great holiday onsite i.e a small supermarket, pool, bar, restaurant & games area & plenty to see within walking distance

Good space, great value. Not there long enough to use the amenities available!

The place is large and spread out over a large area, we arrived in the dark and had great difficulty finding our accommodation, poor dim lighting did not help. The bars and restaurants were well looked after by excellent staff, food was good and nothing was any trouble. If you don't have a car then you are limited with what you can do. The surrounding towns are good and well catered for with food, bars, and shopping. The local beach was very good clean, easy to access via a small train. Plenty of facilities there.

If you want a peaceful holiday this is for you, it is not Vilamora or Fuengurela . Rooms are comfortable, but cleaning & maintenance are poor.

Took train to the beach which ran every 10 to 15 minutes which was very convenient and efficient. Beach lovely and clean and very quite very peaceful and relaxing.

Really nice hotel in the algarve, staff so friendly and very accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained by staff. It's always worthy paying for the superior flat , great vire and outdoor wear! Only disappointing bits were the beds- very uncomftable and the so called satellite tv with 4 channels- although you don't always watch it on holiday it would be nice to have either bbc world news or CNN like last time. The pool is amazing and the bar is great! Really relaxed environment . You should definetly try it out!
