Devereaux Shields House

We paid in full for our elopement weekend at Devereaux Shields House. We arrived the night before and decided to change the location of our actual ceremony and photos. The owner found out, and CALLED the other location to attempt to have them cancel on us. She was angry that we were not using her property. We paid her in full and were not requesting anything monetarily returned to us. She then proceeded to argue with us the morning of our wedding about it. We wanted a stress free, intimate weekend, and this was a really intrusive and out of line interaction with this property owner. Quite frankly, I am disgusted with the amount of money we paid, and how we were treated. There are far too many other lovely options in Natchez. I do not recommend this establishment whatsoever!

The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful and, overall, we enjoyed our short stay. However, although we had arranged a late check-in, it took a long time for someone to answer the door, and no one answered the phone (which was worrisome). I did not like the breakfast casserole, which was the only option.

Loved the decor, the breakfast was fabulous and we enjoy the owners and the staff. The staff are wonderful they make you feel like family.💕

Had a wonderful anniversary getaway in Natchez at Aunt Clara's Cottage. The staff and home owners were all very accommodating and wonderful. Breakfast was wonderful and the sheets were like heaven. Thank you everyone for your hospitality! Angela had a massage lined up on the property for us from Gina with Spirit of Change and we took a very historical and informative tour with Rev's Country Tours. Thank you for making our 10 year so special!

Graet location, easy to get to everything!

Nothing, everything was wonderful, and our Inn Keeper Ron went above and beyond to help get us get checked in and made my stay wonderful.

breakfast was excellent. staff were friendly and helpful in morning. beautiful block of large well kept houses. short distance from downtown.

our rooms were not in the pictured house but in a smaller one story down the block. no common sitting area except a dining room filled with tables which were set for meals. the owner checked us in and is struggling with some cognitive issues—took a long time with some confusion. no elongated toilets. front door keys were wonky—as if not cut precisely and had to try multiple times to make them work. room keys were fine. support staff great.

Hilights: Angela, the main manager was very attentive, location was fantastic, house was quaint, breakfast was awesome, fridge filled with Diet Coke and water. Negatives: staff was very noisy starting at 5:30 AM every morning making breakfast; the main cook was talking on her speaker phone to a relative during this time and sound really traveled in the house; our TV only provided one channel and the manager could not fix it; we stayed in Victoria‘s room which was directly adjacent to the administration office, and we could hear a lot of employee talking, and reservation phone calls; including an employee complaining about her paycheck; also, the shower bathtub combination was definitely from 1970 or so; the neighborhood is quite diverse economically, and I was panhandled about 3 PM in the afternoon by a larger gentleman less than a block from the house…I (age 59) was actually frightened, and held my breath as I walked past him since no one else was around.

We stayed at Aunt Clara's which was very nice. Our room and bath were spacious, clean and decorated in a Victorian style. The breakfast was good and service was excellent. We were directed to a great tour of the Natchez area. My only criticism is our arrival experience. We were called by staff while driving for our approximate arrival time. We arrived at that time and no one answered the door or phone for about 20 to 30 minutes. It was very disturbing to have that experience upon arrival. Once we were in though Elenor gave us good recommendations for dinner. Ron checked in throughout our stay. I would return.
