Hacienda El Santuario San Miguel de Allende

Many quaint properties when we were walking around San Miguel. For us, location is what made this hotel great. Close to city center, a park nearby for kids, and close to Rosewood Hotel where we attended an event as a guest. This hotel was beautiful old building married with lots of greenery. Food is also good. Many restaurants nearby. This wouldn't be as modern, new, and refined like Rosewood, but is really good for the price & a good experience. Staff is friendly. If you had no budget, Rosewood would be the way to go.

Rooms were not working when we arrived- toilet did not flush, there was no way to contact the front desk from the room, the TV was not working, and did not work throughout. There was confusion about whether breakfast was included or not- it was not. The breakfast was average. For what we paid per night, not a great value.

Cons: inconsistent hot water (but SMA is hot, so this was ok) & a loud A/C unit (but it worked well & didn’t interfere w/our sleep) Despite these minor inconveniences, I would still 100% absolutely recommend staying here!! The location is perfect (easily walkable to sights, cafes, & shops); the staff is warm & helpful; and the rooms & grounds are well-kept & charming. We all (3 couples) loved our stay in SMA & at this hotel in particular.

Everywhere you look at Hacienda El Santaurio is captivating. We just spent time walking around the hotel enjoying the ornamentation, fine Mexican decorative arts, and little surprises. The little bar has the most fascinating mural!!! Covering all 4 walls. The staff is exceedingly attentive. Very very nice people who indulged all our wants. It is best if you know some Spanish. I’d say this is true for all San Miguel de Allende. I’m specifically writing to advise about the 2 grand suites offered. The photos for both on the website are intermixed. My husband who booked was confused when we arrived. We had the GRANADA suite. It is 2 stories. The 2 floors joined by a narrow spiral staircase. If someone has ambulatory issues, this is probably not the suite. As well, the second floor bedroom is smallish, with a full bath. HOWEVER, the terrace out the patio doors was amazing!! We could see the famed sunset (no rooftop restaurant reservation necessary), and from the corner, we could see The Parroquia. At night it looked stunning. Because of the small bedroom and no real closet to speak of, I made the small downstairs living room my dressing area, and I used the SECOND downstairs bathroom. This set up worked well. The room was very quiet at this time of year, and 2nd floor gloriously sunny. The other grand suite is called the PARAISO. It is located on the perimeter of the open air dining area, a courtyard type arrangement with rooms on two sides looking toward the dining area. (But like all rooms, you are outside when you open your hotel door.). Paraiso is separated from dining area by a heavy piece of dining furniture for privacy. Paraiso is on the ground floor on route guests go to front entrance of hotel. The large room cannot receive much sun light. The advantage is that there are very few stairs to this room. Unlike the Granada, which is up an outdoor steep staircase from another small courtyard. The Paraiso is one large room with combined sitting area and 1 bathroom as far as I understand. The hotel does have a nice communal terrace from which to see the sunset and the Parroquia. They were not operating a bar there, though, when we were there in April. They run a dining room, but we barely saw anyone eat there. Breakfast, especially Sunday brunch, is very recommended. You are just too spoiled for restaurant. choices in San Miguel. El Santaurio is on the much ballyhooed Adama Street, which is picturesque, and near the Centro and major sites, the worthwhile San Antonio neighborhood , and the choicest restaurants and rooftop bars.

The hotel, with its beautiful gardens and artwork, is in a great central location in San Miguel de Allende. The food and service at the restaurant were excellent.

This is an old building with interesting rooms, ours with a balcony. Beds are comfortable and the towels and linens are fresh every day. Convenient walking to the town plaza and in the other direction to interesting city sights. This is definitely not a touristy hotel for English speakers...bring your Spanish with you!
