"Great old place"

8.0

Good breakfast, comfortable bed, cool old place. The neighborhood feels a little dodgy, but there's parking in back of the hotel.

"Island of Tranquility"

10.0

A charmingly restored vintage mansion. The neighborhood is an area that one might term "improving." For those in Troy this is a unique place, and I would like to return to Troy just to stay here again and spend more time. They make an effort to make guests feel appreciated and welcome!

"Troy NY"

6.0

The proprietor is very accommodating but the B and B is located in a neighbourhood which is most depressed - however this is Troy NY and it is a depressed area in spite of the nearby Sage Colleges and RPI. The home itself is inviting though shabby and it needs to be cleaned thoroughly and organized properly. The bathroom had mould in the shower and the sheets and bedding were old and worn out. Overall, I liked the owner very much but I think she may need more help to run the B and B as it is an old home and as we all know, these need much upkeep. All of this being said as constructive criticism, I would stay there again rather than in a modern faceless motel. Breakfast was fine and one thing I liked VERY much was the flexibility of the owner on our arrival. Due to weather we arrived very late and all was organized for us to go to our room. Snacks and instructions were left out for guests and this was much appreciated. Running a B and B is difficult and I hope the proprietor can take time to address the issues of cleanliness and organization. All being said, if one can take a bit of dust, the stay was a welcome break and as stated, the owner was very welcoming

"This B&B is in the middle of the ghetto in Troy NY"

2.0

We were at first shocked to find that this B&B is in the center of the ghetto in Troy, NY. Secondly the building is not only a dilapidated building but also had tall weeds growing everywhere. We drove by it the first time, went around the block, which was a worse neighborhood, but decided to pull in the parking lot to see if it might be any better. Immediately we had an uneasy feeling in the parking lot and thus my husband and I decided not to stay. I called the number and said we were unable to stay in such a dilapidated building and stressful area. I requested my money back as it was paid up front and said how terribly disappointed I was. A few days later she did return my call and left a message that the fee was nonrefundable.

"Watch Out !"

2.0

We didn't stay. The neighborhood was blighted, complete with boarded-up row houses & residences sitting on their front steps watching the passing traffic. The B&B wasn't much better ... no one was present to greet us, the property was dirty, the environment unappealing, & the room shabby. We felt unsafe, so left a note & found other accommodations. Trying to understand how I made such a poor choice I reviewed the description & photos ... the place SURE DIDN'T LOOK LIKE WHAT WAS DEPICTED!!!

"Absolutely wonderful place to stay"

10.0

This was an incredibly charming bed and breakfast. The building is a gem in a somewhat depressed neighborhood. It was wonderful to simply look around inside, especially if one appreciates historical preservation and period architecture. The house is immaculate, as are the rooms. Tina is an incredible hostess - from the wonderful conversation to the fantastic breakfast cooked to order. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

"Nice B & B close to Albany Amtrak train station."

8.0

Looking for hotel or B & B close to Albany Amtrak train station. Visit NYC often and 4 hour drive from Montreal. This way we could take an early morning train and be in NYC earlier. The price and proximity to the train was a selling point. Pictures and rating were also good. Found the area not as nice but once in the house, complete change of atmosphere. Classical music playing in background, instructions, notes etc answering any questions we had (We got there close to the 8 o'clock late arrival so no person greeting that evening). Note with room, bathroom location as well as code for door posted for us in entrance. There was also private parking spots for each guest room quite well indicated. Homemade breakfast next morning was very good as was owner's hospitality.
