"DISAPPOINTING AND TIRED B&B WITH A VERY MISLEADING WEBSITE"

2.0

The website for this B&B makes it sound so wonderful - so we booked it for a more expensive 2 night stay on our 3 week road trip of California. We booked the Sequoia Room for $504. It was so disappointing. We were shown to our room by the caretaker, but when I was shown the bathroom I first noticed that the sink did not have a plug. I pointed this out only to be told that she couldn’t get a spare one for me as they didn’t have any and that they just then get stolen’. The ‘luxurious’ dressing gown had a brown stain on it so I had to request a replacement for this. The 'private balcony' was not private and actually shared with 3 other bedrooms. I was especially looking forward to using the jacuzzi bath that was in this room but initially the cold tap did not release any water even though it was turning freely. Then it actually came off. Once again we called the caretaker and she then got the local handyman to come round and fix this. He tried twice to say it was fixed, but on both times, before he left, I turned the tap and once again it came off. At this point the caretaker offered us an alternative room. This room did not have the jacuzzi bath and separate shower that we wanted. But most frustratingly the toilet flush there did not work. There were also bulbs not working in the sink area and above the bed. There was fresh sawdust on the bathroom floor from a loose panel in the toilet door and a crack in the main cupboard mirrored door. When we pointed these out we were not informed as to when they would be fixed and were a little annoyed to find out that the handyman had been back in our room whilst we were out all day without our permission. Overall this place is in a very tired state and in desperate need of updating. The website needs to reflect what is there now, as it is very misleading at the moment. The guest rooms are not ‘luxurious’. We also did not receive any of ‘Lisa’s famous granola’ which I was really looking forward to and which was mentioned on the website. We also had to ask for the freshly squeezed orange juice on both of our mornings there. When I asked for some sort of reasonable compensation on our first day there, for all the issues that we encountered, the caretaker informed me that Lisa was away that week. We had paid about $500 for these 2 nights so I insisted that contact be made with the owner. The owner did ring the following morning and did offer us some compensation, but I would still not recommend this B&B as a luxurious place to stay on your travels in California.

"Great place to stay during Ag Show"

8.0

We stayed here because we were attending the World Ag Expo in Tulare, and didn't realize how quickly the hotels filled up. It seemed like we got there late (by B&B standards, not hotel standards), but found the room clean and comfortable. Of particular note, it was the first time my wife and I remember not waking up with back issues from the bed. We were offered the use of the TV in the living room, but we tend to be night owls and didn't want to disturb anyone. Besides, we had to map out or next day at the show anyway. I took my shower at night (as is my custom) and found it ease to turn on and adjust. However, when I went to turn it off, the handle just kept turning but not shutting off the water. I turned it at least 3 times, to no avail. I was afraid I was going to have to leave it running, get out and dry off and call the owner. But, I finally got it off - I don't really know how. Turns out, my wife had the same experience in the morning. The only other complaint was that, out of 6-8 electrical sockets in the room, only 1 would hold a plug, so charging cell phones, computers, etc was a challenge. Let me end on a high note. Breakfast was WONDERFUL. First course was huge plate of fruit that was delicious. That was followed by a chocolate crepe. Again, wonderful. And the final course was a bell pepper stuffed with a whipped egg mixture. We pretty much left in a food coma it was so good. Checkin, checkout - all uneventful. Overall, a great place to stay.

"A little disappointing, except for the breakfast!"

8.0

The breakfast was amazing, the staff was accommodating and personable, but also very professional. Unfortunately, the things WE find most important is where this stay fell short. These scents in the room were much to strong, the bed wasn’t super comfortable, it wasn’t as clean as I like, and the shower had poor water pressure and inconsistent temperature. We chose this B&B because it had 10 out of 10 stars. I wish our experience had been a 10.

We only stayed for one night on a weekend trip to Sequoia but we really enjoyed it. This was our first time at a real, true-to-its-name bed and breakfast and now I regret not having tried it before. Lisa (the innkeeper) is a gracious host and showed us the grounds when we checked in, and she made sure to ask if we had any dietary restrictions or preferences - I thought that was really considerate. She has her artwork hanging in the hallways - that's really lovely and it added to the homey, charming feel of this whole place. Although the room we chose was a bit on the smaller side, the bed was comfy, and we slept well. The walls and doors were also kind of thin, so we heard our fellow guests coming and going in the hallway, but not much more than you might experience at a big chain hotel. As for amenities, they do have free parking, wi-fi, a pool and hot tub, and beautiful landscaped grounds and of course, amazing and delicious breakfast from Lisa who is culinary trained. Truly a great experience, I highly recommend.

"Absolutely amazing"

10.0

My husband and I came to this bed and breakfast for our honeymoon and it went beyond what we expected. The rooms were very comfy with a good AC unit (we had very hot weather while there) with a door that led straight to a very clean swimming pool. The attention to details is what we loved the most. The host was so welcoming and on arrival made us aware of where we could eat, provided containers we could use for our trip to sequoia national park, and provided a fridge for us to put our food in. When I mentioned my husband is diabetic she let us use their private fridge for his insulin. The breakfast we had in the morning was the best breakfast we have had in forever. The egg dish, with the fresh fruit and the homemade cake really set us up for the day and was both filling and healthy. This bed and breakfast was without doubt our favourite stay during our whole honeymoon and would highly recommend.
