Taylor House Inn

We did not eat breakfast as we checked out on Friday morning to visit grand fathers mountain after canceling the rest reservation. We booked online (approx. 2 months back) with picture of the Inn posted. However, we did not realize that there is a 2- family barn outside the building, one of which was assigned to us during checkin. It is a very small room with an attached bath, has a queen bed, a sofa, and a cabinet with a little or no space to move around. The storm door is damaged and sink was partially clogged. In addition to an old heating, we were provided a room heater. The linens were washed but not ironed. We felt a pungent smell as we walked inside and requested to move inside the main building. We were told (Ms. Tessa Russo) that no other room was available. So we decided to leave next morning. During a discussion, Ms.Tessa told us initially that we must pay the full reservation cost for 3 nights. Finally, the administration allowed us to stay for one night with a day reservation cost plus $45 cancellation fee. I feel that the place needs some repair and renovation and strongly suggest that (1) the barn should be included in the website including (2) dimensions of each room(s) so a traveller has the first-hand knowledge of the rental room space. One should have the option to select his/her room like any other rental places. However, hosts were nice to provide free water and snacks in the room and coffee/tea in the main lobby.

(1) Exclusion of the barn in the website; (2) No space information of each room (dimension); (3) No option to choose own room with no detail room information during the renting/reservation. Although the pictures are provided for all rooms it is extremely difficult to judge the space; (4) There should be an option to cancel immediately with a cancellation fee (e.g., $45 for us). (5) The lawn needs care and cleaning.

The bed was uncomfortable, owners were extremely nice and friendly. It could use an update, breakfast was nothing special. Nice area, house is pretty.

I like the location.

Most of the main house is not air conditioned, and it was very stuffy. Our room was air-conditioned.

The breakfast was very good. We appreciated our hosts and their hospitality.

The room smelled a bit musty. We did not stay in the main house but were in a side building that was a bit cheaper in price.

The hosts are delightful. We were in the area for a wedding. The wedding venue was 13 minutes away. The room was cozy with our own bathroom. The bed was comfortable and we had a great time.
