"Amazing Time at Cala Luna"

10.0

My family and I just got back from a wonderful week long stay at Cala Luna. It’s an absolutely beautiful hotel, nestled in a lush tropical landscape, and a short walk away from a stunning rugged beach. If you prefer more of a party scene in Tamarindo, this resort probably isn’t for you, but it was perfect for what we were after. The breakfast buffet every morning had a wide variety of delicious and healthy food — a mix of American staples and traditional Costa Rican fare. We stayed in a three bedroom, three bath villa that was very comfortable and spacious. The private swimming pool was also extremely large and well maintained. Howler monkeys were frequently spotted throughout the resort grounds, much to the delight of my kids. We also spotted sea turtles, raccoons, and a wide variety of birds in and around the property. Downtown Tamarindo is probably a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel where you can find all kinds of great shops and restaurants. We did three excursions, all set up through the resort: a hike to La Leona waterfall, zip lining and a half day private catamaran charter. All three were excellent, but the private catamaran charter was particularly great. The only thing I will mention is that there is often a lot of traffic due to the fact that there are few roads and they are only one lane, no highways. So all the travel times were were given for the excursions and to and from the airport were double if not triple the time. So be aware of that as we almost missed our return flight. All and all it was a great experience and we would definitely come back.

"Serene & beautiful spot"

10.0

Four of us stayed in a villa for three nights. I cannot say enough about the beauty of this place. The walkways to the rooms, the view at the beach, the interior of the villa, and the decor of the common spaces were so pleasing, befitting of a place as beautiful as Costa Rica. We slept well, ate delicious and varied breakfasts, petted the many outdoor cats that reside at the inn, and conversed with the supportive, caring hosts and staff. Clearly this place takes pride in ensuring a relaxing experience for visitors. We preordered groceries, rented a surfboard and golf cart, and the front desk staff helped make all of this go smoothly.

"Heaven in Costa Rica"

10.0

We are just back from a week at Cala Luna. The suite was perfectly sized with great amenities. The grounds are lush and a true jungle oasis. The restaurant was superb for breakfast, the bar area elegant and sublime…overlooking the pool. A thousand shout outs to Steven, who remembered our food and drink selections…and was a gracious host. The pool was great, yet who needs the pool when there are miles of beaches a two minute walk away? Easy walk from the hotel to multiple excellent restaurants. We walked into Tamarindo a couple of times. It’s a great way to see the town however a golf cart certainly is quicker. Eddy the concierge arranged excursions for us, the other concierges made dining reservations for us. One gentleman used his charger for a laptop that needed some juice! The housekeeping staff kept everything just right. Kudos to the entire team at Cala Luna for helping to make our trip even more memorable.

"Over the Moon at Cala Luna"

10.0

Cala Luna was an absolute delight. We were 3 senior women in a 2 BR villa. Better than the pictures! Spacious, aesthetically pleasing, clean, comfortable with a lovely private pool. The entire staff was outstanding in every way. Beautiful beach for daytime strolls, lounging and sunset drinks. Away from Tamarindo bustle but an easy walk or $4 cab away. The Origen restaurant is top tier. Farm to Table at La Senda was an interesting and delicious outing.

"Beautiful Cala Luna."

10.0

My wife Fiona and I stayed here for 5 nights at the end of our 14 day holiday in Costa Rica and what a wonderful place to relax, get some sun, eat some terrific food and have some fun. Our room was fabulous, a lovely cool retreat from the sun with a beautiful big bed, his and her sinks in the wash room and a lovely sunken bath / shower. The restaurant is top notch with some delicious well presented dishes that were a delight to eat. The staff are amazing, the restaurant staff, the front desk and the house keepers. Boy do they work hard. The pool was excellent with plenty of loungers and we thoroughly enjoyed having lunch by it watching the monkeys on the trees and listening to the Grackel bird singing it's song. While there we did 2 trips. The first was a scuba/snorkeling trip organised by the hotel. The dive company provided was excellent with excellent gear, boat and instructors. There is just as much to see under the water as there is I the trees. With good weather the visibility was v good and it was worth every penny. The second time out we went out on a Catamaran for a tour, swim, lunch drink and finished off watching the sunset. Whilst at Cala Luna we used the laundry service which was quick and crisp.

"Best serene, luxury resort near Tamarindo"

10.0

From the moment I was dropped off at Cala Luna I was continually amazed at how the experience just got better and better. Each room is its own single villa, surrounded by the lush forest, and just steps from a most beautiful and sandy beach. The sunsets are incredible. The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The tubs are large enough for about 5 people! The food was fresh right from their very own farm. The dishes were works of art every single time. The staff was warm and gracious and nothing was ever too much for them. They got back to me with my requests quickly and with ease. The pool area was sweet, with a few private areas tucked away from others. It is easy to be lazy and relax at Cala Luna but if you want to move, walks on the beach both north and south directions go on forever. It was nice to be about a 15 minute walk from Tamarindo and be secluded but close enough to town to get there quickly. But trust me, you won't want to leave the property. It is just magical.

"Good but not great"

6.0

Hotel lobby area is very nice. Rooms are very nice 4 star (stayed in getaway suite). Pool is very nice - big and good temp but area around pool is small and crowded. On windy days the pool would get significant amount of debris from surrounding trees and no effort was made to remove debris during the day. If you are looking for a good beach this is not the spot for you. While scenery at the beach is beautiful, it is very rocky and not swimmable. The sunsets are gorgeous. You can walk 15 min by beach to Tamarindo beach where you can swim (but not convenient). The grounds are extremely well kept and walkways to rooms are beautiful. You often see monkeys. Restaurants - Origins was a disappointment with most dishes having Caribbean spices and few options without. Service was average. Breakfast buffet was “meatless” unless you pay extra for bacon. Bring reusable water bottles as you pay for minibar water - there are filtered water stations at pool and lobby. This is not an adult only resort so be prepared for kids in the pool.

"Best choice for yoga retreats in Costa Rica"

10.0

My yoga studio puts on 3 international retreats per year. We change up the locations for spring & fall, but we always return to Cala Luna each January. We have made this beautiful hotel a tradition and our clients continue to come back again & again. From the business side, Carol & Silvia in group sales are fantastic. Warm, professional, patient and creative. My favorite people to work with. Easy communication & deep knowledge of area. When something feels stale after a few years, they step right in with new ideas & itinerary support. The food & restaurant staff are outstanding. The food is fresh, delicious & loved by our clients. Flor & Steven are tenured professionals who take very good care of the morning crowd & our lunches. Mura was in charge of our evening service. She was patient, friendly and warm. Too many staff to name, but they are all so skilled. Papaya ceviche, new pizzas, and the brisket are stand-outs. And fries by the pool with passion fruit bbq sauce. The rooms are spacious & offer plenty of room for clients who want a roommate. The front desk team are so helpful & welcoming. Johny. David, Eddy, Karla, Nicole, Michael, Donovan. So many to thank. Your retreat guests will love it

"Jungle Oasis"

10.0

We finished our Cost Rica odyssey at the Cala Luna Boutique Hotel. We enjoyed 4 days doing nothing but sitting by the pool, walking the beach (no swimming access to ocean here), and eating. Breakfast was included, and it was a buffet with option of ordering fresh omelet or rancheros. We had dinner here twice . The catch of the day can be prepared 4 different ways. Coconut Lemongrass and Yellow Curry options were delicious. Staff very friendly.
