Beautiful pools, beautiful rooms, excellent service, and good food. What more could you want on your vacation? Okay maybe it could be a little less pricey. But I felt like it was a luxury vacation so the high price tag was warranted.

Amazing property. They put a ton of work daily into details to keep the property spotless. We loved every minute of the time.

Cabo Azul is attractive and well maintained, with multiple pools and hot tubs and a good location. We enjoyed the water aerobics/Zumba and stretch classes, as well as the Spanish instruction offered on site. We stayed in a Junior Villa, which was spacious, nicely furnished, and included a small patio. A microwave was provided upon request. The coffee maker did not heat the water very hot, and there was limited ability to wash dishes or cutlery in the unit. One notable difference compared with other accommodations we’ve stayed in throughout Mexico is that drinking water was not provided in large refillable containers, so bottled water must be purchased. Water and groceries sold on site are priced significantly higher than at nearby supermarkets, which are roughly a mile away and may require transportation if you do not have a car. The on-site food service is good, though very expensive, so we chose to eat some meals in the room or off property. Guests are offered a timeshare presentation that involves a high-pressure sales approach and typically lasts longer than an hour, which is worth being aware of in advance. Housekeeping was very good overall, though communication with the front office could be improved. We did not receive a notification when the room was ready on the first day, and a requested cleaning time was not followed, with service often occurring later in the afternoon. There is live music if you’re located near the front of the complex, but it stops around 10 or so every night. Overall, this is a relaxing and enjoyable place to stay. With some advance planning around food and water, it can be a comfortable and pleasant experience.

We've been coming to Cabo Azul for 20 years. What has been a reasonably priced resort has become a ridiculously expensive stay. 2 salads, 2 small entrees, coke, diet coke and a couple bottles of water at Javier's....should NOT cost $250.00! Even the food and drinks at the pool are borderline crazy (pricewise). Beautiful place to stay. Staff is tremendous. But make sure to eat across the street or in Old Town San Jose.

The Cabo Azul is our favorite resort mostly because of its great employees. It is in a good location near the town and across the street from some great restaurants. It is also spotlessly clean. Elesvan greeted us with a great big smile upon arrival, and every time he saw us for three weeks. I asked him how long he worked there and he proudly explained that he worked on the grounds crew for 2 years before moving to his current job which he performed with 100% confidence. Sebastian A. the resort manager wants to keep good employees and give them new opportunities - this is a really well-run resort, and this is a great success story for both Elesvan and the Cabo Azul. Jose, Alan, and Issac gave us great service at the pool every day for 3 weeks. They are all hard workers, attentive, and are very polite. We do miss Sebastian LL very much - please bring him back! Marion the pool supervisor would check in with us as she made her rounds. I saw her while walking on the street in town when she was not working. She stopped me and asked how I was doing and if everything was going well on my trip. I really appreciated her efforts. There is great security around the resort. Roberto was usually at the front entrance and greeted us warmly every single time he saw us. He is a great employee. Rubio is also a security guard and a former police officer. He was always paying close attention to everything that was going on. One of the pool attendants that I have known for 3 years told me that Rubio helps to guide the younger workers whose families are not nearby and referred to him fondly as a second father. I was not surprised by the comment as it speaks to Rubio's fine character. Arturo works on the activities team. I think he does a great job - especially at running blackjack. We especially enjoyed the tree lighting ceremony, and he was a great elf. The food and beverage service (including the convenience store) is outsourced to a third party vendor. The drinks are sometimes very weak and always very expensive. The food is decent but very overpriced. They will not bring you a complementary glass of water even if you order a $23 margarita and $30 tacos. They will bring you a bottle of Evian or Fiji water for $9 to $12 plus tip. They will scold you for bringing a bottle of water you purchased from the convenience store (which they own and run) and there is no other water option available other than in your room. Resort was beautiful!

Resort allowed people to come down super early in the morning hours and place personal items on the lounges to reserve them only to then not show up until mid day. This made being able to find a place by the pool in the morning hours tough. I understand that's a difficult thing to manage. Other resorts we've stayed at had signs to notify guests of a limited reserve time policy, and had an employee monitoring, which seemed to work at those resorts. Having paid $7500 for our room for the week and then struggling to find a lounge chair at 9:30 in the morning, but seeing bunches of lounges not being used (other than by a book or a water bottle,) was not great.

Cabo Azul has some real positives, but unfortunately the overall experience didn’t live up to expectations. The rooms are genuinely nice—spacious, clean, and comfortable. The food was also very good, and most of the staff were friendly and professional, which made parts of the stay enjoyable. That said, the resort feels overly rigid and not particularly guest-focused. There are a lot of rules, and flexibility is almost nonexistent. Something as simple as using a towel to block the sun so you can stay outside longer isn’t allowed. You can’t even adjust the angle of the sun shade yourself—you have to ask staff to do it for you. The pool policies are especially frustrating. You’re not allowed to bring your own drink to the pool, even if you purchased that alcohol at their on-site store (at a very steep markup). Drinks ordered at the pool are weak—even doubles, which is pretty standard anywhere in SJD—and the food prices are also roughly double what you’d expect elsewhere. To make matters worse, guests routinely “save” pool chairs for hours at a time without actually using them, and this behavior isn’t managed at all. In short: beautiful rooms, good food, and nice staff—but the excessive rules, weak drinks, high prices, and lack of accommodation really take away from what could otherwise be a great resort. Not a place I’d rush back to.

Everything was perfect! The facility, the food, the service, the decor. Walking distance to nearby village for local color and shopping/food. Separate pools for peace and families, great beach, over the top decor, happy employees. Really hard to beat.
