Hotel El Hidalgo

This is a typical Spanish highway hotel that caters to foreign and domestic travelers. It is nothing fancy but it is clean, convenient, has parking and good basic Spanish food.

Old style motel with bungalow style rooms situated around swimming pool. Dated and in need for some tlc though!

I knew I was in trouble when I opened the door and the room smelled like bug spray. Air conditioner was not working so we had to open doors for hours. The bars on windows were an indication that we weren't in the safest area but when I found an empty wallet on the ground, I knew we needed to be extremely careful. Hotel is very dated. Internet only available in lobby, but there is no place to sit in lobby to use it.

Some people obviously love this hotel and return again and again partly due to convenience on the road south and partly due to the staff and the good food. We had problems with heating/air conditioning (you can't open the windows due to road noise) My husband got an electric shock from the heater in the bathroom. I am sure you could find a better place that is just as convenient.

Very convenient if you're traveling on the A4 motorway but otherwise a long way from anything. A remarkably peaceful room considering how close to the traffic the hotel is situated. Friendly staff, a good evening meal and breakfast and recommendable as a one night stop.

We stayed one night in this hotel on our way from Sevilla to Madrid. It was a convenient mid-way place to spend the night, but in retrospect, we should have continued driving into Madrid rather than spend the night in this older hotel with its lack of anything to do or see. The hotel is fairly old (think 1950s motel in the Western USA). It has been remodeled recently, but it still felt old. The beds were very, very soft, but we were able to sleep in them OK. The restaurant had closed by the time we got there, so we drove the 5 miles into the nearby town and bought food at a grocery. Given the other hotels within 70 miles, this one is probably the best option, which does not say much. For breakfast, the employee in charge got up early and opened 1/2 hour before normal to accommodate our need to be on the road by 7:30 a.m. - a very kind gesture. In conclusion, stay here only if you are really tired. Otherwise, keep going the rest of the way to either Sevilla, Cordoba, or Madrid.

We stayed in this hotel with my 7yr old grandson, chosen for its nearness to family in Valdepenas and because it had a swimming pool. Unfortunately, the pool does not open until June! The overall layout of the complex was fine, a sort of mote with gardens - with a filling station next door, on the A4 motorway to Andalucia. It could have been a reasonably enjoyable stay, but the rooms we were given, 101 and 102 smelled very strongly of sewage - very unpleasant. We stayed as it was only for that one night, but I did complain about it in the morning to reception staff.

If you want something right on the road for your trip, this is a nice hotel. It was certainly a very nice hotel in 1975, now it looks rather dated. No major renovations in decades. Nice staff but rather expensive food and drinks, and why not they are the only stop in quite a while. If you look real hard you might find something better. Comfortable bedding for a good night's sleep.

I have stayed at this hotel for the past 5 years, nothing has changed, just a down to earth hotel. I travel to this area on business each year, the only draw back in the hotel has no internet connection. The phone service is old (not touch tone) so dial up internet is also very poor.
