TownePlace Suites by Marriott Kansas City Overland Park

This would have been a wonderful hotel in 1999. In 2024, not so much The pictures are accurate if the rooms were not so beat up. Painted in yellow with a green accent. We booked a 2 bedroom suite for 4 people to stay for a wedding party. There is one bathroom, smallest ever where you cannot even close the door from the toilet to the sink if someone is there. Shower curtain does not hang properly so the floor is soaked, and with only two sets of towels, one is used to try to mop up the water. The sink is very small with hardly any room to set anything down. The bed in each room is a double, and the only hanging mirrors are in the bathroom and hall. No full length, which is an issue with 4 people trying to dress for a wedding. The carpet and furniture are in bad shape, that that sofa pull out in the living room is horrible (twin sized). Worst was the 1999 plugs, lamps and phones. No way to plug in a charger or laptop without having the plug to plug it into the walls. Even Holiday Inn budget motels have these on the lamps. It looked great from the outside, but the desk was either not staffed or had 3 people there, including staff who brought their small children in to run around. So not worth the cost. Def not a real two bedroom suite!

I'm giving this hotel a poor rating mainly because we did not have hot water when we stayed. We didn't realize this until early the next morning when we wanted to shower. The hotel staff could not get the issue fixed before it was time for us to check out. This was not their fault. I spoke with the staff about getting a partial refund for our inconvenience. They stated they would not give me a partial refund for the inconvenience because I booked through Hotels.com. They said they would give me Marriott points to be used later. However, the points they gave me were the equivalent of about $2.50. The hotel manager, Christine, emailed me apologizing for the inconvenience, and I explained that giving me $2.50 was an insult, not compensation for the inconvenience. And, that I would like to be compensated fairly. The manager did not respond after that. The hotel itself was clean and in a nice area. The breakfast they offered was okay, not exciting. Overall, I would not have had any real complaints about the hotel, if we had hot water and been able to shower. Or, if the manager or staff had even attempted to compensate me fairly for the inconvenience. This is a Marriott run hotel and they should do a better job of taking care of their customers, even those that book through Hotels.com and not directly through Marriott. Basically, I paid over $165 for a room where I could not shower. Update 10/15/24, I still haven't even gotten the lousy $2.50 in rewards points they offered me. Absolutely, no follow up by the hotel or the manager, Christine. Marriott is supposed to be better… they charge like they should be.

I didn't stat because it was the wrong hotel. I wanted to switch to the correct one, but couldn't connect to custoner service

Great stay

My only complaint was we had room 111 and it was right next to the boiler room which kicked on and off all night long was rather annoying. Would not recommend giving this room to anyone unless it was the only option available and the guest was told about it ahead of time.

Nicely designed room, clean and comfortable. Breakfast bar not many options.

The lady at the front desk was exceptional. She made sure we were okay. Gave us more towels for our room. Accommodated as well!

I chose to stay here because it was close to family.

I booked at the last minute. Since I was close to family I didn’t need the kitchen areas of the room. I understand that the offering in the area and the timing of my booking influenced the price, but this was way too much to pay for one night. I just traveled to Italy and Venice and paid less for a very good hotel there than in Overland Park!

Its a nice place to stay. Great staff and bfast. The facility needs updating.
