Pleasant and very accommodating staff.

Nothing, really. We initially asked for room with 2 full beds. However, room had no closet and limited space for hanging clothes. Manager found us a new room in another building with closet and one queen bed. Much better! We were also able to add on another night to our stay, which we booked directly thru the inn. We did not have to change rooms either. Location is awesome. Continental breakfast was quite decent. We have stayed at the inn several times, and will do so again.

"Christmas in Newburyport"

Everything was great, from the welcome bag, to the comfortable bed. The Essex Inn & Suites is an easy walk to the shops, restaurants and historical waterfront of Newburyport. Will stay here again in the future.

"Will not stay again."

We expected the ambiance of a historic inn. A lobby or a parlor. This place is like one of the chain hotels. No real breakfast just plastic wrappings on EVERYTHING! Plastic water glasses in room. Quite frankly I expected much more.

"Very nice stay with great location close to the shops, restaurants, and Christmas decorations."

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. We even used it for a little extra heat on a cold windy day. Breakfast was better than expected, most of the items were pre-wrapped and the egg sandwiches were microwavable, and yet everything was fresh and tasty.

The TV was quite small, so we had to pull up a chair and a stool to get close enough to view it. The bathroom had some minor issues. Most hotels use a nightlight in the bathroom, since the overhead lights were too bright to use at night. The TP dispenser was awkwardly mounted, especially for seniors, behind your left shoulder. The hot tub was very nice, except that it seemed to be mounted backwards. The faucets were mounted against the opposite wall, so that you had to crawl across the tub to turn the water on, in order to fill the basin before entering. I imagine it had something to so with the accessibility of the plumbing during installation.
