"Amazing location - grotty shower room - tiny room"

5.0

The location of Tower Guest House is amazing and the road is gorgeous so we had expectations as we approached.

However the room was pokey - Yellow Room - to the rear. The view was to the backs of cafes which had a lot of rubbish . The bathroom smelled of sewage and there was mould- we had to leave the windows open the whole time and asked for cleaning detergent to be put down all plugs. . The soap dispenser at the sink was empty and the soap dispenser by the shower didn't work as the soap liquid was too thick. As for the recycled and upcycled furniture - it was all just old and bad quality ! Nothing cute or quirky at all . Maybe the other rooms are better ? I did notice our bathroom wasn't on the images shown - it was really grotty.

"Central but"

4.0

The location is very central. The check in was good and the chap was friendly and helpful. The price is good if you need to be so central.

We knew the room would be small so that was fine but it was so hot when we arrived and even when we turned off the radiator and opened the windows wide it stayed hot. Having to have the windows wide open was not a problem until we discovered how noisy the street was a night. It was very loud until the early hours. The shared bathroom was not great, really small, not very clean and it was often busy when you needed it. If you want to stay then I'd suggest taking ear plugs and getting one of the ensuite rooms.

"overall a nice stay in the tower house in the center of Oxford"

8.0

very central - all in walking distance, nice comfortable room including the possibility to make coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Having had two reservations, one for one night and a second for the three follow-on nights, it was very nice to be able to stay in the same room for the next two nights, without changing the room.

very difficult to get in contact with the owner to perform check-in. Though anticipated 1 hour before by whatsapp, needed to stand under the rain at least 10 minutes before getting in.

"Stunning stay in a stunning location."

10.0

You’re right in the centre of Oxford, but in the Exeter College, Turl Street, Bodleian Library area which is beautiful and very quiet. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and set a standard for professional hospitality. It’s a Tudor building (or buildings, there’s an old stone path INSIDE the hotel that leads to some of the rooms) and has more heritage and character than you’d expect for the very reasonable price. My room was exceptional, and I felt like I was staying in a boutique vintage hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I had the best night’s sleep in Oxford I’ve had for many years. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Nothing. But a couple of things people might find useful to know: As is normal with very old buildings, the ceilings are low. I’m 5’8 and was fine, but if you’re nearer 6 foot you’ll need to stoop down sometimes. This info is in the hotel listing. Breakfast is not included. But there are some great breakfast places on the High Street (3 mins away) and if you want a traditional English Breakfast you should go to Browns in the Covered Market (3 mins away) which is something of an Oxford institution.
