"Talk about good service!"

10.0

We booked an apartment in Monaco do mezzo through our travel organization. Because of some delays we arrived in the middle of the night, which was not a problem. The apartments are great, the pool is just what you need on a hot Sicilian day and the road there is an adventure on itself. Try the dinner and find out why the owner and chefs look as well fed as they do. The staff is very helpful, friendly and kind. Definitely recommended!!!

"Great Experience in a great eria."

10.0

Very nice old farmhouse located in a beautiful montaineous aria. Staff is outstandingly kind, helpful and efficent. Food is very tastey and meals are very generous . Clean and simple with beautiful views : the location is 17 km from Petralia, therfor better indications should appear since it is not easy to find otherwise.Suggestion

"Just a ghost of what it was years ago!!"

2.0

I was used to go in this place the first years that it opened...and it was beautiful and every year you could find improvement on the premises and services offered. Today after 10 years I went back.....and IT WAS AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!! The road to get there it's wrecked and I believe quite dangerous. We went to have lunch and spend the day at the swimming pool. 10 euros extra to use the swimming pool but they have a very limited amount of sun beds and the swimming pool was invaded by wasps. The worst thing is that the staff seems totally careless of the problem...a woman was bitten by 2 wasps and they didn't even have the ice to help her with it. The rest of the premises seems totally neglected...the toilet at the swimming pool was dirty and full of spiders. The playground was full of weed. In the end we were so disappointed that we decided to leave before having lunch...since the low standard of the services offered we were very wary of the food that they would have offered.

"Second week of holiday"

10.0

Having traveled in Sicily extensively the first week we needed a quite hotel for the second. What a gem Monaco di Mezzo was, Ok you have to take care when driving on the road to Monaco di Mezzo (as you do in all of Sicily) and the driveway to the hotel can be exciting but it is well worth it. Location, pool, activities, food, staff are all excellent. We didnt want to leave.

"Fantastic tranquil location"

10.0

We made a big mistake (our mistake) of going here on a large touring motorcycle (Honda Goldwing). The road down to the hotel is narrow and steep and gravel in places. This would be fine in a car (we will use car next time) but an absolute nightmare on a bike that weighs around 900 pounds. The building is rustic and very attractive, you are surrounded by hills and mountains with only the sound of birds and cow bells. There is a good size pool with plenty of loungers, chairs and shade to get comfortable. The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, really good. From a simple breakfast of bread, cheese, cold meats, juice and coffee or tea to the 4 course evening meals we enjoyed with the very drinkable wine. This is the sort of place you go to and just relax. In the lounge there are books to read, board games, cards and a billiards table. The setting is comfortable and relaxing. Our room was basic but very pleasant and reasonable size. Shutters on the windows to keep out the sun, air conditioning to cool off and plenty of storage space. It is in the middle of nowhere, which is one of its advantages. The surrounding roads, once you wend your way up the actual road to the hotel are reasonable and access to the A19 is good. Beware though if you head north on the A19 it doesn't exist and you will be diverted through the mountains, very pretty but very, very slow going because of the traffic. We will go back soon, by car this time!

"Very basic accommodation"

4.0

having seen the photos of the lovely swimming pool we were expecting good quality accommodation. Unfortunately this was not the case, because we were only staying one night we were put in a dark room which was adapted for disabled people. There was a loose tap and broken light switch in the shower room . The track leading to the Agriturismo was a challenge but as we live in the country it didn't worry us too much, but it is not one that you would want to drive over very often.when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon it was very busy but a lot of the visitors were only there for the day. The meal in the evening was good but the breakfast was as basic as the accommodation and was left sitting out uncovered on the table..not very hygienic .

"Wonderful holiday in heart of Sicily"

10.0

Monaco di Mezzo provided us with a really lovely base from which to explore Sicily. It is in the middle of nowhere which didn't bother us too much, but it does mean forward planning is necessary for meals prepared at home. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating for every request we made. The activities (we used the swimming pool, table tennis, badminton) were terrific for the kids. The actual apartment was clean, spacious, comfortable and more than adequately appointed in term of furniture and kitchenware (we had an apartment with a gallery bedroom plus bathroom, and a separate bedroom with its own bathroom). We ate at the restaurant three times and this was very good and very generous! Be aware that there is no menu as such, the chef prepares a set meal for all guests (huge array of antipasti, bread, a pasta dish, a meat or fish dish with veg and salad, and a dessert with fruit), and I certainly wouldn't choose to eat there more than a few nights across a two week holiday (partly due to cost and partly due to a need for variety). It does take 15 mins to get from the agriturismo to the motorway (and the private road to join the main road is rather ropey in places) so be prepared to drive good and plenty if you want to see anything worth seeing (Cefalu and its beaches is an hour away, Agrigento 1 hr 20, Etna 2 hours) - but we were prepared for this and had accepted it as a part of the holiday. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend Monaco di Mezzo.
