InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise by IHG

The hall and decoration in the room is amazingly grand and beautiful. But it was quite cold at night because the air conditioning didn't work well. I had to ask for a portable heating machine.

Great place to stay in to see the incredible mountain scenery and hikes. This is not a hotel where many westerners stay.... that said. It is a great Chinese Hotel.

The room is spacious and clean. The bath room has no problem. The food is abundant considering its location of such remote area.

Loved the architecture of the building and my allergies were well catered for by the chef.

I absolutely would NOT recommend this hotel. The Intercontinental Jiuzhai is a beautiful place to stay (think Disney World, Tibet edition) but customer service is terrible even by Chinese standards. Positives first: visually impressive building, solid breakfast. Detractions: guest rooms and residential hallways are a huge dropoff from the lobby/common areas. Hallways are low-ceilinged, dark, and smell musty. NO WIFI in guest rooms and 50 RMB charge per 24 hours for wired internet access in rooms – though this fee is waived if you are a Priority Club Gold or Platinum member. Staff threw MAJOR attitude explaining the situation. The staff was pretty much the worst thing about the hotel. Policies, if existent, are unenforced. I've written a fuller review on TripAdvisor that you can review to learn about two incidents during our stay. I'd say in general for hotels.com guests though, beware: 1) they may hassle you at check-in, claiming they have no record of your reservation. If they try to then try to extort a deposit out of you, you should refuse. 2) Though the hotel claims to be pretty central, it's a good hour or so from the Jiuzhai aiport. Taxis are available- hotel will charge 400 RMB for an "official" car and the unofficial taxi rate is much cheaper. Expect to pay about 100 RMB for a round-trip drop off and pickup to the front gate of Jiuzhaigou park, or about 500 for round-trip to Huanglong Park (it's a 2.5 hour drive each way, through mountains).

This would be the best hotel in Jiuzhai. The room, the environment, the restaurant, the cafe, they are all marvelous. Very great experience while staying at this hotel. Will sure be back again. The only downside is that this hotel is situated slightly far away from the town and jiuzhai tourist attraction. A return trip of cab would cost around RMB 120. However, it is easy to get a cab or self owned vehicle outside the hotel. Another thing is, you must watch a Tibetan performance at theater called "Zang Mi". It is indeed a great performance. Highly recommended. You can get the ticket at the theater at about RMB150 and they will start selling ticket at about 6.20pm. The show will be performed at 7pm once everyday.

the only part that was problematic was the location of the hotel. It is not located within 2 km from the scenic area' as mentioned in the web site, it is 24 km away...

Pros: The best hotel in the area. Nice complex and nice view. Best restaurants in the place. Grocery store and Drugstore on property. Cons: They didn’t vacuum the carpet during our stay, even when it was obviously dirty. One of the corners in the bathroom seemed to be never cleaned. The check out was so slow that I had to wait 40 minutes in line, although there were only three people in front of me. That was REALLY awful.

We arrived at the hotel late after a frustrating day of flight delays. When attempting to check in we were informed not only that they had reserved 2 twin rooms for us instead of the king and twin that I had paid for, but that they had no record of being paid by Expedia and that we would have to pay the entire amount again in order to get our keys. Asking for the manager made things worse. She was belligerent and unhelpful. My son, who speaks fluent Mandarin, argued with her for almost an hour, before she agreed to allow us use of the hotel business office. I was able to log on to my Visa account and show her the paid receipt. At that point she stomped off angrily but we were at least given keys to our room. We were not allowed to charge meals to our room for the remainder of our stay. For our entire stay, the rest of the staff either gawked at us or were terrified of us. We were overcharged for tea at one of the restaurants. There was a complete lack of customer service or anyone competent in English. The property is beautiful but these folks are not ready for Westerners.

The hotel is beautiful. It is probably one of the nicest resorts I have ever stayed at. The multiple restaurants on site are very good...that is important because the resort is far from other parts of the town so you end up eating a lot of meals there. the rooms were beautiful. the only complaint I have is that the shower matt probably should have been changed, it was a bit dirty, but the rest of the room and bathroom were amazing.
