Cost of rooms were reasonable

Sometimes attention to a small detail tells one a lot. This motel pre-chilled its ice pitcher in the fridge. My first stay at Candlewood Suits, Melbourne FL has made it my go-to lodging for future trips. So maybe it's not, technically, what I would call a "suite", because the kitchen was not in a separate room. But it was a kitchen: full-size refrigerator with separate freezer compartment, microwave, stovetop with two burners, dishwasher, and countertop prep space. Now, you can get a microwave and mini-fridge just about anywhere. But, as has often happened to me, will you thaw your microwave dinner in and then realize you don't have a fork with which to eat it? Or remember while you are in the grocery store, but have no option but a whole box of plastic forks. If you want milk and cereal for breakfast, will you have a bowl for it? Mattress was comfortable, room was clean, climate control worked easily and precisely. Full bathtub, not just a shower. Pop, snacks, heatable sandwiches, and even ice cream for sale in lobby was priced at standard grocery store prices. If you want a larger selection, there's a Dollar General a mile away and a Wal-Mart a few minutes drive. Very friendly and helpful desk staff. And room rate was quite moderate. Granted, I was there in low season; but room rates all move in tandem with the calendar, so I'm pretty confident that this room will be a high value throughout the year.

Convenient to where we were visiting.

The room smelled strongly of carpet deodorizer, likely used to mask pet smells. Tub didn’t drain causing water to rise ankle deep before finishing shower. While the hotel had an ice maker, the front desk informed us that rooms had no ice bucket. Unlike virtually every other hotel, Candlewood does not offer a complimentary breakfast. Bad experience for a $200 price. We will not be back.
