Days Inn by Wyndham Ames

The most disturbing part of the entire stay was checking in. Instead of a human being, there was a kiosk with a large video screen and the clerk appeared on the screen and directed us through the check-in process. They kept saying things like, "This is standard practice in modern hotels," but I have stayed in many hotels and never had a virtual person check me in. There was also an attendant on duty, but he didn't do the check-in. However, after we went to our room and we're getting settled, he opened our door without knocking to see if anyone was in the room. When I booked my room online, I requested an accessible room because it was a small hotel and would not have an elevator. I did not want to climb steps with luggage because of mobility issues. The breakfast provided was bare bones and minimal but edible. The room itself was fine and the bed was comfortable. The AC worked well, and we did not try the television. The bathroom was accessible for a wheelchair, however the mirror was not properly affixed to the wall and hanging at an angle, and if I had been in a wheelchair I would not have been able to see myself. Frankly, I find it disingenuous to advertise this as a "by Wyndham" property. It's a Days Inn.

Was given keys to an occupied room. Walked in on somebody sleeping. They gave us a new room but we were pretty sketched out after that. Breakfast was lacking. Would not recommend.

Worst experience ever at the Ames, Iowa Days Inn! From the moment I arrived this establishment made a big impression on me - and it wasn’t a good one. They don’t realize they are in the HOSPITALITY business. There was no greeter to check me in - but there was a kiosk with a screen where I was to check myself into my room. Are you kidding me? I refused to do their job! I asked for a real person to provide what would be reasonable to expect when arriving after a long drive: a personal greeting, welcome and basic check-in details. I was not made aware of the lite free breakfast, the mini mart or the fitness center and pool. And I would have used the fitness center had I known about it. The room was average, cheap furnishings. Very noisy between the street noises on Duff Avenue and loud AC unit in the room and someone running a vacuum cleaner after midnight. I left the same way I arrived: no good morning greeting or thank you for staying here. Nobody was at the desk at all. A very poorly run business, lacking every sense of customer satisfaction. I will never stay there again. And highly doubt I’ll ever make a reservation at a Days Inn again.

Reasonable hotel at the budget end of the price range, plenty of places to eat nearby. would use again
