Kyoto Watazen Ryokan

We stayed one night at Ryokan Watazen on our last night in Kyoto and wish we could have stayed more. The hotel is very conviniently located in the heart of Kyoto by the Gion district. The staff was very welcoming and helpful with questions and directions. The traditionnal japanese room that we chose was superbe and very clean. The futons are comfortable and the staff made a great job installing them while we were away! We loved the sentô in the basement open late at night and early in the morning to wake up before traditional japanese breakfast which was tasty by the way and worth trying. Great experience overall and we would definitly go back there on our next trip in Kyoto. Enjoy!

The staff at the hotel was very helpful. My wife had a medical emergency and they were able to book us into the emergency room on a Sunday evening, can't thank you enough. The ryokan was a great experience in itself and the Japanese breakfast was really nice as well. Overall 5 star and I would highly recommend it. thanks

Watazen has it all! Quiet, convenient location, room and onsen very clean and we could leave bags with them after checking out which. We pre arranged to have Kaiseki and changed complimentary breakfast to traditional and highly recommend doing both. However it is the exceptional staff that completes this ryokan experience and nothing was too much trouble. When they take the time to wave you goodbye on the street you know this is somewhere special.

Staff is friendly and helpful. They speak English, no problem with communication. They also give suggestions on dining, shopping, and things to do in Kyoto. Room is clean and spacious. I will definitely stay again if I go to Kyoto.

We decided to stay at this Ryokan for two nights, however we should have stayed for at least 1-2 more. Hotel staff were very nice and helpful. Rooms and onsen were clean and fun to try. I would recommend to book a room with a private bathroom, like we did, especially for western travelers that might not be used to using a public restroom. If considering staying at a ryokan while in Japan, this one was very well priced compared to others and a nice experience overall.

Great hotel to experience a traditional ryokan. The room was large and clean. The Japanese breakfast (additional charge and must order by 5pm the day before) was excellent. The included continental breakfast consisted of boiled eggs, pastries, and toast. Location was good, as the Nishiki Market was a two block walk. We used taxis to get around.

The location was perfect for shops, restaurants and the train station. All were within 5-10 minutes walk. It was a nice traditional room with more space than I expected. It had a small screened off area with a table, chairs, fridge etc.

Very friendly staff. Nice room (japanese style). The Kaiseki diner is not the best food you can have in Japan, but it's a fun experience.

This is the second time I have stayed at this accommodation. I returned because my first experience was so wonderful, The location is excellent. being right in the hub of the restaurants and shopping area. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms big compared to other places I have stayed in,

The location of this ryokan is right in old Kyoto, making it convenient to walk to the market and Gion. Excellent ryokan experience and service with the convenience of both a private shower and access to the public bath. The Japanese breakfasts are excellent, they change the menu for you daily. Had a wonderful time at Watazen!
