The only reason I did not rate the staff or service is that I did not ever see any. This is a fully self serve property, including finding your own key to the room. I like that - very simple. It feels just like being at home.

"Historic, convenient."

Nice location. The communal areas were lovely and the bathroom was large and well-appointed. Water was hot, bed was fine, etc. It appeared they're still restoring our room though, so not everything was put-together.

"Beautiful, but a bit disappointing"

8.0

I had stayed at the Hassinger-Daniels a couple years ago, when it was still being run by the previous person who had rooms with a beautiful decor and a great breakfast. The place is still beautiful, the bed was great, and I slept great, but the old beautiful furnishings are mostly gone now. And since it's been sold to a private equity firm, they no longer serve breakfast. All you can get now is water from a dispenser and coffee from a Keurig. I was grateful for the water, and I was grateful for the worker who found our missing water bottle. That said. It's still a charming place. But if you want breakfast, you need to go to the pancake house down the street.

Very nice stay - very clean. Never saw any staff so can’t review that. Parking was minimal and cramped - luckily we ubered where we needed to go so that we wouldn’t lose our spot. Check-in is simply using door code given per email… very simple and easy. The room is basically that, a room big enough for bed and side tables and dresser. Our room’s air conditioning was not working as well as the rest of the house so that was a little uncomfortable sleeping in a room that was 10 degrees warmer than the hallway outside and the rest of the house in the middle of August. Even with all that, I would still stay here again if we came to Birmingham needing to stay in that area for convenience .

The floor in my room seemed to be on the verge of collapse with several sagging spots.

This historic home turned hotel is even more beautiful than I imagined! Chandeliers around every corner, the most beautiful stairwell I’ve ever seen with stained glass windows, and quaint details everywhere! Our room was very comfortable, cozy, clean, and had a gorgeous chandelier. The towels are soft and smell like fresh linens, and the beds were very comfortable. Especially with the stand-alone fan conveniently placed next to it!! It was hard to leave in the morning. Loved everything about this hotel and will definitely stay again the next time I’m in Birmingham.

It was obviously a grand place at one time. The present owners have areas accessible to guests that are shabbily decorated and in bad need of repair. Our room's television did not work. I called and emailed an never got a response. The hairdriyer was just sitting on a shelf with the wall holder attached and the screws by it. It could definitely be upkept better. The furniture was cheap looking and old. All in all, though. It was a unique place and we would probably stay again in the future.

I'm glad that I read reviews before booking so I knew (more or less) what to expect. We were traveling for work and really just needed a couple of beds and a bathroom that was reasonably private, comfortable, and affordable for a night. There was a clear glass window from the bathroom to the bedroom space which was a bit awkward traveling with work associates, but there were a couple of "public" bathrooms in the mansion that we were able to use as needed. There is no front desk or staff around which was fine with us. We actually happened to be the only guests the night we stayed which made the experience a little extra creepy and cool. Though the Bed & Breakfast days of this house are a thing of the past, there were a lot of interesting artifacts, articles, and random historic information throughout the house that enhanced our brief stay. Despite being in town on a sleepy Monday night, we found things to do within walking distance of the home (shout-out to The Nick for drinks, entertainment, and pool, and Walter's delicious food) and fully enjoyed our one night in Birmingham. We found the Hassinger Daniels Guest House very accommodating and affordable for our needs - price for our double occupancy room was $20 less than the least expensive hotel for the same night and far more interesting and enjoyable. :) We love a well-appointed historic bed & breakfast when we're looking for that extra love and attention, but this stripped down version was excellent, too! :)
