This was a lovely apartment hotel. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was a 2 bed loft apartment which had been set for separate rooms for our 2 boys in addition to our room. The lifeguard round the pool was very attentive and made it feel safe with two young children. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and both the drinks by the pool, and the table service beach sun loungers were very good. We didn’t try the restaurant for dinner, we like going out, but it looked ok. There were lots of very good restaurants a few minutes walk from the hotel, and the main old town was 45 mins slow wander, or €7 in a taxi from just outside the hotel. The old town is beautiful, and we took a few excursions on the island with pick ups for them all from just outside the hotel. Overall a great break.

We’re heading home today after a week here and overall we’ve had a lovely stay. We stayed in a Plaza Grande room, which was spacious and in a great location close to all the facilities. The beds were very comfortable. Some parts of the room were looking a little tired though, and the shower was extremely small. We also had two balconies, but both were quite small and only had seating for two people despite there being four of us. The staff have been fantastic throughout our stay – always friendly, welcoming and helpful. We also treated ourselves to a massage in the spa, which was very good. Breakfast was decent, with a reasonable selection of hot and cold dishes. Our main issue was that the hot food was rarely actually hot and was usually only lukewarm by the time you got it. That said, being able to sit outside with a sea view was lovely, and the breakfast staff were absolutely amazing. The pool area and beach were both great. I’d recommend bringing beach shoes as it’s quite rocky getting into the sea, but once you’re in, the water is beautiful. There were plenty of sunbeds on the beach, plus regular drinks service. Around the pool there were always enough sunbeds too, even on the busier days. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel, all very reasonably priced. There’s also a large supermarket less than five minutes away on foot. The Old Town is about a 35-minute brisk walk away, or around five minutes by taxi. Taxis charge a fixed €7 fare for pretty much anywhere locally. The Old Town itself is beautiful, with hundreds of bars and restaurants to choose from. This was our first visit to Rethymno and it definitely won’t be our last. For us personally, the hotel was a little further from the Old Town than we’d ideally like, but that’s down to personal preference. A final mention for the staff, who were genuinely wonderful throughout our stay and are a real credit to the hotel.
