WorldMark Taos

This hotel is hard to rate...it has huge plusses and minusses The location is good, close to the plaza and on the main drag but set back from road noise, all good. The lobby and meeting rooms on the main floor are spectacular, as you'd find in a "grand hotel" or deluxe resort. Everything is immaculate and most staff are welcoming and helpful. Free laundry (with basket and detergent) is a big plus if road-tripping. In-room kitchenette is pretty complete if you buy groceries. When we went to the Taos Art Museum, we learned that the WorldMark used to be the Fechin Inn, housing guests in the warm, woody style of the Fechin House. This explained the grandness of the lobby, but confused us about the remodel and downsides described below.

The staff member who greeted us wasn't very friendly (we found her to be an exception as our stay progressed); she didn't explain the keys or tell us about amenities, but what she did tell us made us uncomfortable. She took a $250 deposit, which she said would be held for 7 days in case we damaged the property "or other things" (we never knew what the other things were, but worried about use of kitchenware, towels...). When we checked out, the receptionist at the time refunded the deposit immediately without even checking the room! Weird after our concerns and questions. Biggest minus was the room itself - clean but DARK and poorly laid out. patio doors didn't let in much natural light and lamps+overhead fixtures did little. No USB plugs and open receptacles in the kitchen were too worn out to hold our chargers. Worst of all no plug or table/ledge near the bed to hold a medically required CPAP machine for sleep apnea prevention. We got an extension cord from the desk and improvised, but no plugs or surfaces near the bed seemed like a huge oversight. In the end, we had a pleasant stay, enjoying the "square room" for reading, but disliking our guest room.

Great loved room we were in. Only compliant I have is I'm handicaped & we brought our own shower seat & non slip floor mat, But the shower had a fixed head instead of a sprayer with hose that is only way a handicap person can shower.

There was no breakfast most places have breakfast. We had stayed in another place it was real nice for less and had a continental breakfast. The lighting in the room was terrible.

The price and the lighting was terrible

Loved having a small balcony with chairs and table. Could open both the doors to it and get a lovely breeze in the room.

The property condition may need some upgrades; but staffs are very helpful and friendly. The location is good, basically within walking distance of everything.

No room service..needed to collect towels and replace them at the front desk. Hotel check-out on itinerary stated 11:00 and check-out was actually 10:00. Need to correct this. As for check in time was 4 and check-out at 10. Very little time to enjoy rest and relaxation.

We booked on a 2-night stay as part of our 20-day road trip. Here are the pros and cons we experienced during our stay. Pros: Apples, oranges, and cookies were available in the lobby at various times during the day. 10 washers and dryers were available for use at no additional cost. Clean and well-furnished room with a kitchenette, sofa, and murphy bed. Cons: 1. We had room 213 and the elevators were out of order for our entire stay. 2. WiFi was available at a cost of $9.95 per day in our room. Apparently, it is free for Wyndham Club members, but not for guests who are not Wyndham Club members. This was not conveyed to us when booking our stay at Worldmark Taos. Every lodging establishment we have used for the last 7 - 10 years has provided free WiFi. Wyndham management needs to understand that free WiFi is a must have for everyone staying at its properties. 3. We were unable to enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony outside our room. The table and two chairs were filled with debris (twigs and leaves) from the birch and pine trees right next to it. All of the surfaces (chairs, tables, railings, and floor) were filled with dirt and dust. It was clear that the balcony had not been cleaned for a long time......perhaps since the start of winter. It would have been nice to enjoy a happy hour on the balcony in the 72-degree afternoon temperature around 4:30pm. We provided feedback to the front desk in a constructive manner. Our stay was a mixed experience.
