The Gables Hotel

We booked this hotel for one night on our way to the Highlands. The only thing that I would rate highly here is the staff friendliness, otherwise absolutely terrible place! Our superior quadruple room was worse than any hostel around the world I have ever stayed at. It was incredibly dated, bathroom smelled badly of urine, it wasn't clean, floor in the bathroom wasn't even mopped, we found human hair ( and body hair) over the bathroom floor, toilet, in the bath, everything was stained, dirty and sooo grubby, genuinely an awful room for the money! We tried to find some alternative accommodation locally at the last minute, but nothing was available. We also had our return journey booked there, but we cancelled it immediately and booked another hotel instead, as it just was that awful. For almost £200 per night, this was just shocking, shocking standard. When I went through the reviews, I noticed the family room has had the same feedback in the past, with people refusing to even stay there, unfortunately I didn't do my homework well enough to read through all the reviews, instead I just looked at a few recent ones. The staff there was very pleasant and apologetic, they are genuinely the only good thing about the place.

Booked bed breakfast and dinner. Dinner was very disappointing taste less pate cold meat pie frozen chips of poor quality complained and asked for a refund of the dinners costs was advised a refund would be forthcoming but could not tell me how much that was sunday now Friday still no refund tried ringing put no knows what there doing. Very unprofessional needless to say we will never go back.

Stayed here for 5 nights for a wedding party. The bar staff, cleaners, waitresses & managers were fantastic and attentive! The outside of the hotel is maintained and well kept. The location is ideal for walking and driving as there's shops, pubs, and more all within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. My personal preference the room could do with updating, however the bed is comfortable & bath is lovely. It's perfect for a few nights away! The chefs do an an amazing Breakfast and dinner every time. Jane and Ewan went above and beyond to make our time comfortable and enjoyable! From the boys room 37 🤗

Stayed at The Gables for a wedding and enjoyed a great day with friends

We enjoyed our stay at The Gables Hotel. We were on route to Skye just a one night stay over with evening meal and breakfast. Both meals were very good. As was the atmosphere. Comfortable beds. Great pillows. Clean and tidy. Staff were all really friendly which were house keeping, reception bar & restaurant. Made us feel very well come.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, clean room, nice bar. Only stayed one night as a stop-over on our way up North. Left feeling like we would be happy to stay for longer if we are ever in Gretna again

Great hotel with some character. Polite, helpful and friendly staff. Most important thing for us was that it was pet friendly as we had a dog with us.

Restaurant- service terrible food ok. Menu different to one online so don’t plan from that one! Room tired and could do with facelift

Easy check in and convenient for north /south stopover.

Had a one night stay and was really nice. Room was a good size and had kettle with tea/coffee etc We ate in the restaurant and food was well cooked and plenty. The staff were really helpful and they helped my mum who needed a ramp at the front for a wheelchair that they set up for her. Will visit again when up in the area
