"Convenient"

4.0

Not my first stay here, chosen for convenience. Not the best place to stay, staff unfriendly. breakfast poor, pools dirty. You can find better and cheaper closer to the city. Government run and often taken over for their needs. conferences etc.

"FILTHY - HEALTH HAZARD!!"

2.0

Rodent fecies all over the bathroom. Fungus growing all over the ceilings. Musty. Booked two double beds, and received a roll away from 1950 something?? Disgusted - we were forced to check out the very next day instead of staying the remaing pre-paid 3 nights. The ad say's 5 minutes from town - how about 20 minutes with no practical way in or out. The one night we did stay we had to consult 3 tuk tuk drivers before one of them, with our map in hand, could figure out how to get there.

"Not for western turists"

4.0

The hotel is located way out of town. The hotel charges 200-300 bath to go into town. The hotel is quite dated and in need of renovation. However, the worst thing is, that the hotel is clearly not suited for western turist. The staff hardly speak a word of english and while we where there the hotel was only visited by large Thai parties. Would not recommend to western turists.

"A relaxing and safe hotel off the beaten track."

8.0

Noticed some previous negative posts and inquired about them at check-in. The General Manager, Mr. Samarn Tipibang answered my questions in a friendly and professional manner. He also assured me that he was not the owner but the proprietor for the real owners, The Royal Thai Army. I felt 100% secure at that point and throughout my visit. Breakfast was excellent every morning and the hostess, Mae, is beautiful and refreshingly cheerful at my early morning meals. Room service was inexpensive and delicious. The rooms feature a full sliding glass door to a nice sized terrace. The bath is wrapped by a shelf which can be very handy. The hotel itself faces the mountains of Chiang Mai and the Green Lake. The location is remote but easily accessible via a 10 minute, 100-300baht cab or tuk-tuk to the center of town. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. P.S. My credit card statement for this hotel appears as "Royal Thai Army's Lanna". Mr. Tipibang was telling the truth.

"Nice Hotel, pleasant surroundings. But!!!"

8.0

The hotel is very nice as was the staff. We found the communications a bit strained due to language problems as the staff do not speak English very good. This is the only language that can be used other than Thai. The rooms are quite comfortable but the furniture was something else. The beds have sharp corners and if you are not careful at ALL times the you will walk into one of them. My partner did this and ended up with a nasty gash on her leg. Another resident had also walked into the corner of the bed and gashed his leg. We complained and suggested they round off the corners for safety. The wardrobe is small for two people, there are no drawers for underware etc and one stool to sit on. The other form of sitting is a small lounger, but you would not be able to veiw the television. The WiFi is for 2 hours at 100 Baht and it has to be used within 24 hours once the card is registered. The food was basically Thai, which was very nice except for the spicey dishes, it was too hot.. While we were there the pool was drained , cleaned and fresh water returned. There was only 5 sunbeds without matresses and all they provided was a pool towel to lay on. This was not very comfortable so it was a big downside as was the parasol, there was only one All in all the hotel was comfortable, clean and friendly. They were helpful and we had some free trips to other points in the city other than their documented destinations. The hotel could be a very good tourist hotel if they upgraded the room furniture and more resources like the spa massage. They state it on their website but it was not available when we were their. We enjoyed the stay as we are retired as it was quiet and not over boistrous like you would have say in Phuket.. Hope this helps in your choice!

"I would never reccomend this hotel to anyone"

2.0

We had booked for 3 nights but became ill after using the swimming pool. Looked clean until you disturbed everything lurking on the bottom, and they use green tiles to hide the colour of the water. We asked when it had been cleaned and showed the reception staff the bugs that were happily living in the water. This led to one of the party being called a trouble maker and a bas**** by Mr. Somchai the hotel owner. The Thai staff in the hotel tried their best but like most have no control over your stay and have to do as they are told. We only stayed one night of the 3 and moved on earlier than planned. After seeing the tourist police to discuss the appalling treatment. If you are hoping to see Chiang Mai this is not a good hotel. It is deceptively far from Chiang Mai and not easy to commute back and forth. The hotel operates a bus service but be ready to pay for this through the nose as an unwelcome extra. If you want to stay in a nice room and do nothing else then stay here. If you expect more then stay well away from this hotel.

"Just Wonderful"

10.0

We stayed at the Green Lake Resort for 5 nights in early January. Mr Tipibang and his staff should be very proud of the service they offer there. Our room was a lake view room, which meant we had a view of the pool area from our private balcony and a lake view from our front door. The resort is located away from the centre of Chiang Mai, but that was fine by us. At the end of a hectic 4 weeks in Asia, it was worth the travelling time into and out of the city centre to be in such a peaceful setting. The resort offers free shuttle buses to 2 major shopping centres, as well as the Night Bazaar each day. Taxis don't come to the resort often, but you can flag down any of the many taxis that travel along the main road and negotiate a good fare. We found the food to be authentic Thai and of the highest quality, not to mention the VERY reasonable prices. Whole fish cooked over the coals are kept alive in a pond until 2 hours before being cooked. You can't get any fresher than that!!! The service was fantastic, however there was a slight language barrier, which made it difficult at times to communicate or requests, both in the dining room and at the front desk. The one thing that I think could be improved on is the lack of tourist information available in the rooms. Many hotels we have stayed in around the world provide general information about their city and recommended places of interest, i.e. tourist attractions, dining options, transport information, etc. There was no information about the resort's facilities either, i.e. dining room hours, pool info, laundry services. Thank you to Mr Tipibang for taking the time to speak with us and to his staff for ensuring our stay was a pleasant one. All the best, Tony & Glenyse Woods Australia

"Peacefull surroundings, noisy neighbour"

6.0

This was my seccond stay at Green Lake Resort. First time was a year ago, and I liked it so much that I decided to stay there again. The location is perfect for a relaxing stay outside the city. The reception area and the restaurant has no walls, so it was quite chilly for the staff in the morning hours. It was a relief not to have to use the aircon at night. But my sweet dreams was abruptly disturbed at 2 am when the neighbour arrived his room and put on the TV at maximum volume. After a call to the reception, the TV was tuned down to an acceptable level, but this incident clearly shows the weakness of this resort: The rooms are not isloated against sounds. In fact, you can look through the door gaps. The bathrooms are also in need for refurnishment. Appart from this, the stay was comforrtable.
