Wyvern Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Hotel itself is a 5. Dont be fooled by on line pictures. There is NO pool. My only issue is that because I'm health conscious, i use stairs when possible. The bottom couple of stairs of the stairwell had the carpet removed to bare cement floor. I'm guessing that my shoe caught on something on the cement and I fell. I took an Uber to urgent care and learned my ankle was broken. This was 1st day of my vacation. I was confined to my room from sunday until I could get a flight home on Wednesday. I just thought the hotel would have offered me some kind of compensation when i reported accident and then the diagnosis. Vacation ruined. Money and time lost. Surgery and therapy pending.

Really enjoy the cleanliness, the room itself was quite nice.

My recent stay at the Wyvern Hotel in Punta Gorda (part of the Ascend Hotel Collection) was far below expectations for what is marketed as a luxury boutique hotel. Check-in was delayed because the front desk was unattended for quite some time, leaving guests waiting unnecessarily. We had booked two rooms and were assigned top-floor accommodations, presumably for better views. However, no one mentioned that this placed us directly below the rooftop bar (Perch 360). Loud music blasted past 10:00PM, making it impossible to relax or sleep. When I called the front desk that evening to complain, I was assured the music would end at 9 PM — clearly inaccurate information, as it continued much later. To add insult, both rooms had noticeably cracked mirrors, which felt unsafe and certainly not up to "luxury" standards. The final straw came at checkout: We accidentally left some clothing hanging in one of the closets. I called the hotel first thing the next morning (around 8:30 AM) to report it. Despite the room having just been cleaned, staff claimed nothing was found, nothing was turned in to lost and found, and the housekeeper had no knowledge of any items left behind. Our clothes essentially "disappeared" with no effort to locate or return them. Overall, poor communication, misleading information, subpar maintenance, and questionable handling of lost items made this an extremely frustrating experience. For the price, I expected much better from an Ascend Hotel Collection property. There are plenty of other options in Punta Gorda — I suggest looking elsewhere if you value sleep, honesty, and basic attentiveness.

Easy access to a beautiful art deco hotel with modern, spacious, and well equipped rooms. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Walking distance to a great downtown with shopping, arts, and dining. Beautiful views of the bay.

Everything on the hotel was great.
