"A really disappointing revisit..."

5.0

venue

The fact that we couldn't have a shower or bath without worrying about whether there was enough hot water for the both of us. This wasn't highlighted when making the booking. Also, to pay £270 and to not have breakfast included and to pay £20 each if we did want it, make this one night break completely not worth it. Really disappointed with the revisit and we won't be going through Booking.com again.

"Nice location but overpriced"

5.0

The room was spacious with a good view of the vineyard.

The room could have been better maintained - one of the lights didn’t work, the towels were frayed and the washbasin was badly stained with timescale. At £230 a night for a double it was poor value for money. Breakfast was not included.

"Beautiful and unique"

10.0

A truly beautiful and unique place. We stayed in one of the lodges, which was lovely and secluded. A short walk through the vines and we were at the restaurant, with superb food and wine. Friendly staff and good location near Gloucester and Newent - a lovely small market town. We had a great stay.

Nothing to not like.

"Poor value for money."

6.0

Location is within a working vineyard in a pretty bit of English countryside. Rooms are immaculate but the format is quite similar to a motel, with a strangely incoherent design philosophy - a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Food is pretty good. There's nothing to do unless you want to do the wine tasting at further expense.

Noisy motel style bathroom fan. Traffic noise is surprisingly intrusive from the main road because you're in a shallow valley. Nowhere does it state that the breakfast is £20 a head extra on top of the very steep room rate (we paid £265). It's one of those strange places where a certain type of Brit glories in spending money in a showy way. There's no identity like the great Douro valley port houses, some of which support terrific boutique hotels for half the price. I think that's the issue here - the UK is not really a wine producer. Crazy that you don't even get a glass upon arrival. We brought our own champagne and it beat the house stuff hands down, even though the house stuff is £38 a bottle.
