Dunn Inn

Great older hotel with character. The staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean, air conditioning, theres a cafe and a good restaurant. I recommend staying here.

The hotel itself is fine, but we booked on the basis of it having a bar and restaurant open. On both nights we were there, neither was open. The area was riddled with sexworkers on every corner after dark, attracted by the busy and loud casino across the road. Would not book again.

I believe in being honest in reviews of places we’ve stayed. So that others — presumably mostly non-Costa Ricans — will know what to expect. At the same time, I want to be fair to the renters, because of challenges they face here that they wouldn’t in the U.S. Flying into San Jose airport, we made this our one “throw-away” stay-over before heading to our ultimate destinations far beyond the city. Which is to say we sorta knew what we were getting into. No illusions. This is definitely in-town San Jose, with all the good/bad that promises. Most of which we were up for. If you’re booking here, I’ll first say, MAKE SURE you aren’t assigned a room on the ground floor! That’s what we got, randomly assigned, and was basically like a prison cell. No windows whatsoever. Which even so, we might’ve endured without complaint. Except the shower was unspeakably bad, with shower head sending streams of water anywhere but on your body. The biggest OWN GOAL in hotel-keeping! Plus, no surprise, there was just this musty smell that no amount of dehumidification could overcome (despite small dehumidifier working round the clock here). One saving grace is they do have gated parking, though you have to go most of the way around the block to get to it. But is sufficient (ie, necessary), I’ll say. The best thing the property owners do is list on Expedia, which insures a high volume of American/European visitors, who we quickly learned to team up with. Front desk and wait staff excellent

A quick stay in San Jose to visit some friends.

My wife and I spent three delightful days at Dunn Inn in San José downtown, Costa Rica. The location was perfect, just a short walk to a lively casino and several museums. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the delicious free breakfast each morning and the meals at the on-site restaurant. Overall, we highly recommend Dunn Inn for its comfort, convenience, and excellent service.

Great check in with multilingual front desk. Quiet clean interior room. English speaking television good AC, WiFi. Safe. Great housekeeping and maintenance staff. Nice breakfast. Convenient. But pricey convenience foods.

We had such fun tooling around San Jose before meeting friends on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The Barrio Amon includes major museums, a wonderful butterfly garden blocks away, and we happened upon the best weekend festival in the Parque Morazan: great floats, food trucks and a fabulous brass heavy band called Rumesco played on Saturday night. Additionally, Barrio Escalante is walkable and full of amazing food and murals and sights. Fabian, at the front desk, took great care of us. And the breakfast was great.

Dunn Inn is a charming boutique hotel located in the heart of San Jose. The rooms are a bit small but comfortable. Definitely a great spot if your solo traveling or traveling on a budget. It's in a safe area and close to everything. The hotel's central location makes it convenient to explore nearby attractions. Everything was in walking distance.
