The Vines Hotel

The location was fine.

On arrival we were allocated a room at the back of site. This was a twin room chalet type accommodation. The room was not very clean at all. The carpet was filthy. There was mold in the bathroom in some corners. The bed linen was disgusting with stains all over the mattress and covers. It also had a very strong odour. We decided to complain and were given a different room above the main pub area. This was an adequate improvement, although there was no mattress cover / protector and cobwebs in the windows. Be warned, the pictures that are advertised give a very false impression and be very aware of the consequences of booking on of the chalet rooms at the back of the premises. It is not a 4 star accommodation and probably needs a health check. We left the next morning at 07.45 hrs and the downstairs reception, bar and restaurant area was still locked, we found this very odd.

The breakfast was nice but should include vegetarian/vegan options and also soya or oat milk alternatives for tea/coffee. I liked the friendly staff and location of the hotel to the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

The room was outdated and carpet had marks. The bathroom could have been cleaned better as had a few insects. Also a net should be included, especially for all ground flour rooms to give light and privacy, as drawing curtains makes the room dark and uou still want the daylight coming through. There was a fan for this hot weather but maybe look at air-conditioning in the future.

The pub and restaurant were warm and welcoming, with excellent gaming facilities that catered to all age groups.

While the pub and restaurant were warm and welcoming, the accommodation itself was in a very poor state. The carpets were sticky underfoot, the decorative cushions on the bed were filthy, and the overpowering musky smell in the room made the stay uncomfortable. The en-suite was badly in need of refurbishment, with a strong drainage smell that was particularly unpleasant. In addition, the security keypad for the upstairs accommodation was broken, which raised concerns about safety and security. Unfortunately, the breakfast experience was also disappointing. The cooked breakfasts were greasy, and the milk provided for the cereal was warm rather than chilled

We stayed in the pub rooms which were lovely. It wasn't noisy there either!
