"Relaxing stay in a country pub in a quaint village"

10.0

Comfortable olde worlds pup with a busy restaurant serving good food. Speciality nights ie steak night and special 2 course nights. Cosy rooms with added touch of home made biscuits with tea and coffee making facility. Local products in the bathroom

Found the stairs to second floor a challenge so if you have any mobility issues request a room on the first floor

"Words fail me."

4.0

Picture postcard pub/hotel in enchanting village. Tastefully decorated compact room with good shower and comfy bed. Plenty of free parking. Excellent breakfasts cooked to order, eggs were particularly delicious. Catherine not only took our breakfast orders but gave us lots of information about the village and surrounding area. She was very helpful and friendly throughout our 2 night stay. There was another young lady who was very helpful giving alternative directions to the pub by phone. We chatted to her when we arrived and she was very welcoming, even put a birthday card in our room for my husband.

Our room was on the first floor overlooking the beer garden. It was busy with many smokers. The weather was extremely hot and we tried opening the window but the smoke came straight in so had to close it. There was a fan in the room but it didn't make much difference. Mentioned it to Catherine the following morning, asked if we could change rooms but couldn't. She said it was an ongoing problem and was very apologetic, said there were a group of ladies who regularly sat on the seats right under our window and smoked. Said she would put up "no smoking" signs on the tables close to the room. That afternoon there was very heavy rain, our windows had been left open by the staff and half the floor in our room was completely saturated. Staff had closed the windows by the time we arrived back and could not have missed the fact that the carpets were absolutely sodden. Although the bed itself was dry it was standing on the soaking floor. I asked again if we could change rooms but again "no". They gave us towels to put on the floor to soak up the water. It was frustrating to see other people checking in after us on both days to other rooms. Again Catherine was apologetic. She said some staff were working 56/60 hours a week (we had also heard them talking about it among themselves) they were short staffed. The buffet breakfast was uncovered again and there must have been a dozen flies on the food. Poor Catherine apologised again, it was another ongoing concern. At check out I asked her for a reduction in the bill, she could only offer ยฃ20 for our stay. I suggested the cost of one night but she could not do that. She could not contact the manager but suggested I contacted him directly which I did. No point getting into a he said she said debate just to say he contradicted all my points and wouldn't budge on the price. Insult to injury, enough said.

"Best RIAT hotel by a long shot"

10.0

Room was immaculate, and was stocked with fresh toiletries, bedsheets, and baked goods every day. Every staff member we spoke to was incredibly helpful and friendly. We attended for RIAT, so for two out of the three days we left before breakfast service started - we were offered fresh pastries ready for us leaving for those days so we didn't miss out (which made the 6am start much more pleasant!). On the day we did have breakfast at the hotel, the food was fresh, tasty, and filling. Great choice of hot food as well as pastries and cold buffet if you want a lighter meal. Access is easy as keys are provided to get in and out without having to pass through the pub/restaurant, but the pub is a great place for a drink too with a good selection on tap and behind the bar. Rooms are well stocked and the beds are very comfortable, with plenty of pillows provided and a great room fan to keep the place cool. We had a small issue in our room on one night (through absolutely no fault of the hotel!) and staff were quick to try and solve the issue, even moving us to a new room as a courtesy - thanks again for this! The hotel is located in a lovely little village but road access and parking is great, and packed lunches are also offered for walks etc. although we didn't get a chance to take advantage of this. Overall a completely faultless stay, by far the best hotel we have stayed in for the RIAT weekend - we have already re-booked for next year. Cannot recommend enough!

Absolutely nothing. We enjoyed every part of the stay!

"A very pleasant, quiet stay with lovely staff."

8.0

It was quirky, clean, secluded and friendly, with a spacious car park. We didnโ€™t book for dinner as well as we had other plans but the breakfast was excellent, as was the service.

It was a hot night and we would have appreciated aircon but appreciate the listed building might not easily accommodate this. With its warped floors and low doorways it might not be so good for people with limited mobility.
