Kyoto Ryokan SAKANOUE

There was a very generous breakfast supplied for a supplement of about 3000 Yen per person involving both a hand lit small steamer and BBQ at the table allowing you to poach and grill various fish, meat and veg products. All very nice, but quite a lot to eat. We opted for the buffet on day three, but would recommend the cook-your-own breakfast if you've got a long day ahead. Adrian behind the desk is a super friendly Frenchman from Calais who is very happy to help with anything. We also had the bonus of a private Japanese bath in our room. Our rooms were spacious.

One small blip -- my daughter found some rubbish under her bed. Otherwise the standards of hygiene were very high.

Quaint. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice and comfortable rooms. Comfortable beds. Essentially free breakfast.

Limited space for putting clothes away (but this is not unusual in Japan)

I think the room for the price I paid is very average

The room was spacious with its own private bath.

For the amount of money spent per night I at least expected a daily turn up service in the room.
