"Good local option. Lovely views."

Stayed in this hotel twice as part of a group tour, start a d end of tour. By the end of the second visit I was quite charmed by it! The hotel is located in what feels like quite a residential area, one street back from the Nile. If you come out of the lobby and turn right there is little shop on the corner that is great for snacks and cool drinks. The streets behind the hotel have a larger supermarket and a domino's pizza takeaway which was handy on our last night. The downstairs cafe in the hotel is useful for coffee and beer (ask for Stella), especially when we stayed in Ramadan and there was nothing open in the immediate area. Another plus is you can walk easily to metro stations, which we used yo get to Coptic churches. The lobby area has some seating and the reception desk plus two lifts. There are also stairs to all floors. Our first room was a middle floor with the bonus balcony looking out to the Nile. The room was large and clean. The bathroom was an odd arrangement, with a corner shower that required you to step over a foot high edge to get into it. That said, it worked with good power and hot water. There was also a fridge. The second time we stayed we were on the top floor in what the bell boy described as the 'honeymoon' suite! It had clearly been refurbished compared to the first room and met more Western standards. This time there was a modern shower room with no high jump! There was a balcony again and a fridge. In essence it was the same room just nicely decorated! I enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which turned out to be a fairly standard Egyptian breakfast; eggs (boiled, fried or an omlette), cheese triangles, flat bread, cake. Great views from the restaurant on top floor. Overall, clean, great location and helpful staff. Give it a chance and I'm sure you will see the Egyptian charm.

Like: Concierge 💁‍♀️ is really pleasant and cordial. Same with adjacent restaurant staff. Clean bathroom and room. I was concerned checking in here on how clean the room would be based on past reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The view from my room was of the Nile which was really cool! Outlets near the bed (win!) to charge phones. Quiet hotel overall in terms of other guests. Dislike 👎: Oh gosh. So much unfortunately. I think the staff tries but they miss the mark. An English language barrier is still really apparent, which means my leftovers I left at the front desk the previous night got thrown away. At initial room check-in, there isn’t even a full toilet roll given. I mean, really?! The towels are the WORST I’ve ever had in a budget hotel. Thin and stringy and barely cover oneself (and I’m slender!). I ran out of toilet roll and told the front desk in the AM… still nothing there I got back to the room in the evening. And had to call the front desk TWICE to finally get it 👎There should be more opaque curtains for the windows as light comes streaming in early. There is no window double-glazing so the dulled roar of traffic is clearly heard outside (I was in room 808). The bed is pretty hard, as are the pillows. thin top coverlet (but duvets in the closet). Finally, Wifi was pretty slow and upload speed awful- and I had the best wifi it seems compared to others who had none or abysmal. No hot shower water later in the AM and only a bit warmer in the PM. The included breakfast is ok: an omelette option and some cakey bread; coffee; tea; OJ. The accompanying restaurant has some hit or miss food: I loved the eskander beans as it was a stew; the dolma was pretty bland. One of my fellow group members said her green soup was terrible. Service was very slow and food took ages to arrive. The location is far from Coptic or Islamic Cairo sites.

"Needs some work"

4.0

The best thing about this hotel is the bar/restaurant, Catalonia, on the ground floor. The food and service there are great. The hotel itself is a bit rundown, the interior of at least some of the rooms needs renovation as some of the ceiling is coming away and the water supply for the sink and shower is minimal (and very difficult to control the temperature). Unfortunately, the wifi is awful but that can be said of all the (‘3*’) hotels we stayed at in Egypt. Positives - the staff are nice and overall it’s relatively clean.

Horrible hotel! They wouldn’t even understand English when I arrived, I had to used Google translate… The people were so rude, it was unbelievable. The property was dirty and very old, I was pretty scared to even sleep there, and the restaurant manager was the worst. Do NOT stay here, I’d rather had slept in the streets than in this place I am very sorry to say. The service was the worse.
